The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 50

At that moment, Crystal happened to be coming down the stairs. She overheard Rebecca’s words and barely managed to stifle a laugh.

The moment George and Mrs. Thomson heard their daughter might be disfigured, they were beside themselves with worry.

George hurried over. “Rebecca, don’t touch your face. I’ll get the doctor right away.”

After examining Rebecca, the doctor’s expression turned grim. “Miss Thomson’s face came into contact with something contaminated—she’s having an allergic reaction. It may take a while to heal.”

Everyone gasped.

“Doctor, is it really that serious? How long will it take for her to recover?” George frowned, concern etched deep on his face.

Mrs. Thomson pressed closer, her voice trembling. “Will my daughter be scarred for life?”

The doctor tried to reassure them. “I’ll prescribe a cream for her. If she applies it regularly, she should be fine in about a week. Mr. and Mrs. Thomson, don’t worry. The marks may take some time to fade, but there’s no risk of permanent scarring.”

As soon as they heard there’d be no lasting damage, George and Mrs. Thomson finally breathed a sigh of relief. Rebecca let out a quiet breath, clearly relieved.

“A whole week?” Mrs. Thomson asked, her worry returning. “How is my daughter supposed to see anyone with her face like this?”

The doctor hesitated. “I’m afraid…there’s nothing else I can do about that.”

Mrs. Thomson frowned. “But doctor, my daughter’s never had allergies before. How could this suddenly happen?”

The doctor replied, “Could Miss Thomson please bring me anything she’s used recently? I need to check for irritants.”

Rebecca thought back—other than her morning cosmetics, she hadn’t used anything unusual.

She explained honestly, and the doctor said, “Then could you bring me all the makeup products you used today?”

As soon as Crystal heard the doctor wanted to check Rebecca’s cosmetics, her heart nearly stopped. What if her secret was exposed?

Noah, who’d been watching quietly, suddenly had an idea. Before anyone else could move, he dashed into his mother’s room and returned carrying all her things. “Doctor, here’s everything. Please check them carefully.”

The doctor nodded. “Thank you. I’ll take a look.”

Crystal watched nervously as the doctor examined the products, her mind racing.

After a few minutes, the doctor’s brow furrowed.

Everyone’s heart skipped a beat. “Doctor, what is it? Did you find anything wrong?”

News of Rebecca’s accident spread, and her brothers rushed over.

Matthew was the first through the door, his voice tight with worry. “What happened? Is Becky alright?”

Rebecca flushed with embarrassment, her hand instinctively going to her cheek. “It’s nothing. I just—after putting on makeup this morning, my face broke out pretty badly.”

After hearing the full story, Samuel’s voice turned cold. “Something fishy is going on. If we find out someone did this on purpose, they won’t get away with it.”

William, more concerned than angry, said gently, “Becky, I have a natural cream for allergic reactions back at my place. Let me grab it for you—it should help your skin recover faster.”

His tone was warm and full of care.

Rebecca nodded gratefully. “Thank you, William.”

Michael still looked puzzled. “Becky, why’d you suddenly get all dressed up today? Was there something special going on?”

Rebecca hesitated, then admitted, “Actually…I made plans to meet Dylan today. There was something he wanted to talk to me about.”

Michael’s brows knit together. “Meet Dylan? Are you going alone?”
