Jacob’s brow furrowed. “Are you sure about this? Don’t go making wild accusations—you’re going to ruin our son’s reputation.”
Mrs. Austin snorted. “I’m not making anything up. A woman’s intuition is never wrong. Hmph. Another gold-digger, no doubt. I’ll see just what she’s hiding behind that sweet face.”
Jacob sighed. “Don’t be so hasty. What if you’re wrong?”
Mrs. Austin shot him a glare. “What do you men know, anyway?”
Determined to get to the bottom of things, Mrs. Austin approached Garcia Yates and recounted everything in detail.
Garcia agreed without hesitation. “Of course, ma’am. Leave this to me—I’ll get to the bottom of it.”
Mrs. Austin nodded. “If you need my help, just say the word. I can be there in a heartbeat.”
Garcia waved her off. “No need, ma’am. I can handle something like this on my own.”
But Garcia had her own worries. Dylan had made it clear there was nothing between him and Raina and had warned her not to spread any more rumors. If Mrs. Austin caused a scene at the company and Dylan found out Garcia had egged her on, she’d be the one in trouble. No way was she letting Mrs. Austin anywhere near the office.
“Oh, and ma’am,” Garcia said, curiosity getting the better of her, “you mentioned Rebecca’s four sons earlier. What was that about?”
Garcia, having Mrs. Austin’s blessing, was secretly thrilled. She didn’t know much about Rebecca, but thanks to Mrs. Austin, she’d learned that Rebecca and her children were temporarily staying at Sunset Villa Estates. The property was under Dylan’s name, but, curiously, he’d never once visited.
Garcia couldn’t make sense of it. Weren’t Dylan and Rebecca supposed to be close? They’d slept together, after all… so why had Dylan never set foot in Sunset Villa?
Fortunately, Garcia’s family had money, and with the right connections, she could dig up all kinds of interesting information.
That’s when she stumbled upon something truly intriguing: Crystal, the adopted daughter of the Thomson family, had tried to pay off her debts by hiring someone to kidnap Rebecca’s four sons.
