“Huh?” Dennis startled, unable to hide his shock. The way Noah’s eyes narrowed, cold and sharp, he was the spitting image of Mr. Austin.
Were these kids really not his biological children?
Before Dennis could explain himself, Ethan rolled his eyes at him. “And to think I actually called you ‘Mr. Dennis’! Last time I even invited you to stay for dinner, but look at how you handled things. You walked out halfway through, didn’t even clear my mom’s name, and just left! You have no idea how disappointed I am. How could my dad have an assistant as clueless as you?”
Dennis’s face turned red. Clueless? Was he really that clueless?
Sweat beaded on his forehead, but he didn’t dare talk back to the little master. He just lowered his head and asked, “Young Master, what do you want me to do? Please, just say it clearly...”
Ethan crossed his arms. “Obviously, I want the truth. I want you to clear my mom’s name.”
Aiden frowned, his little face set with anger. “My mom never did anything to hurt Dad. You people only know how to accuse and slander her. I want you to apologize to her!”
Apologize? These kids sure knew how to make things difficult for him.
Dennis looked helpless. “How am I supposed to prove your mom’s innocence?”
What did they expect him to do—catch her in the act to prove she was cheating?
Evan gave a snort. “Isn’t it obvious? Just bring my dad over and have him talk to my mom face-to-face. She didn’t meet with any strange men last night—she went out to see Dad!”
“What?” Dennis looked like he’d just been hit with the biggest revelation of his life.
So Mrs. Austin had really gone out to meet Mr. Austin last night?
But when he’d reported to Mr. Austin about her not coming home, Mr. Austin had just nodded, calm as ever, not a single word of blame. Dennis had figured it was just Mr. Austin being tolerant. But could it have been some little secret between the two of them?
At that moment, Rebecca’s voice cut through the tension. “Who told you I didn’t come home last night?”
Everyone looked up as Rebecca signaled to the bodyguard.
Only then did the staff realize Emma had been making it all up.
Faces went pale, then flushed red with embarrassment.
Everyone turned to glare at Emma. “It was Emma who lied to us—we had no idea at all...”
