The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 317

Crystal clenched her jaw and strode quickly to her grandfather’s side, lowering her voice as she whispered, “Grandpa, do you really want everyone to know about this? If that’s the case, why not just announce to the whole town of Wye that I’m in debt?”

“You—” The old man’s face flushed with anger, his whole body trembling as he glared at her. He never expected Crystal to threaten him like this.

But her words had struck right at his weakest point.

The Thomson family had always been one of the most respected names in Wye, priding themselves on their reputation and standing. If word got out that Crystal owed money, it wouldn’t just be her shame—it would be the family’s.

Suddenly, all the fight seemed to drain out of him. He slumped in his chair, looking deflated.

Noticing his attitude shift, Crystal felt a surge of satisfaction. She knew it—she only had to grab hold of his Achilles’ heel and he’d be at her mercy.

Putting on the appearance of being on the verge of tears, she continued, “Grandpa, please don’t be angry with me. I know I was wrong. Please forgive me. If you’re really upset, you can scold me or punish me, but please, don’t let it harm your health.”

As she spoke, she gently tugged at his arm, trying to win his sympathy.

But the old man remained unmoved.

The tension in the living room grew thick enough to cut with a knife.

George, desperate to break the heavy silence, finally spoke up. “Dad, maybe Crystal really does understand she was wrong. Let’s not be too upset. A failed business venture isn’t the end of the world; the Thomson family can handle it. Let’s just let this go, your health is what matters most—”

But the old man cut him off with a cold snort. “She knows she was wrong? If she truly understood, she wouldn’t have done something like this in the first place!”

Rebecca nodded. “Grandpa, you should go back to your room and get some rest. Please take care of yourself.”

The old man cast one last cold glance at Crystal, his gaze sharp. “Remember this—if you ever pull something like this again, I won’t be so forgiving.”

With that, he turned and wheeled himself out of the living room.

Crystal hurried to call after him, voice trembling with emotion. “Grandpa, I promise I’ll never make a mistake like this again. I’ll listen to you, and I’ll be a good granddaughter from now on.”

Her eyes shimmered with tears, her sincerity written all over her face.
