The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 295

Rebecca kept her composure. “I have no idea how that ended up in my bag.”

But suspicion was already written across everyone’s faces—no one wanted to believe her.

“Still denying it?” Garcia pressed, her tone sharp and aggressive. “The evidence is right in front of us! What else can you possibly say for yourself?”

Rebecca watched as Garcia pinned the blame on her and quickly replayed the sequence of events in her mind. It must have been Garcia who slipped the item into her purse when she wasn’t paying attention.

Meeting Garcia’s gaze, Rebecca’s voice was calm but firm. “I won’t admit to something I didn’t do, and I never took your belongings. If you want to know how your wallet ended up in my bag, Ms. Yates, perhaps you’d be better able to answer that than I would.”

Garcia let out a derisive laugh at Rebecca’s words.

She snorted, looking at Rebecca with disdain. “Oh please, my wallet finds its way into your bag, and now you’re turning this around on me? You get caught red-handed and have the nerve to point fingers at me? That’s rich. Here’s the deal: apologize to me right now and I’ll let it go. Otherwise…” She paused, her voice icy, “I’ll call the police and let them handle it.”

Right then, Dylan’s voice cut through the tension. “Call the police? For what, exactly?”

His deep, authoritative tone instantly quieted the room. Every eye turned toward Dylan as he walked in with slow, measured steps, his expression unreadable—equal parts cool and probing.

Garcia’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of him. She hadn’t expected Dylan to show up right now.

Quickly composing herself, she put on a show of wounded innocence. “Mr. Weston, my wallet went missing, and we just found it in Raina’s bag. She stole it, but won’t even apologize.”

Rebecca shot back, “Why would I steal your wallet? Is it really that valuable?”

Garcia faltered, caught off guard for a second.

Before she could recover, one of Garcia’s hangers-on jumped in for her, voice brimming with outrage as she jabbed a finger at Rebecca. “Of course it is! You’re just jealous because Garcia gave everyone else gifts and left you out. On her very first day, she brought crystal pendants for all of us. You looked down on them then, so Garcia didn’t bother offering you anything after that. But you couldn’t stand being left out, so you stole her wallet. You really have no shame!”

Rebecca almost laughed at the absurdity of it. Jealous of Garcia? Stealing her wallet just because she didn’t get a gift? The accusation was ridiculous.

She was about to respond when Fitch strode over. His tall frame radiated a quiet strength as he stated, with absolute certainty, “I can vouch for Raina. She didn’t steal the wallet.”
