Garcia was unfailingly polite and gentle. On her very first day at work, she surprised everyone in the administrative office with thoughtful welcome gifts.
For the women, she chose delicate crystal necklaces; for the men, she handed out luxury-brand watches worth a small fortune. Her generosity was so extravagant that she instantly won everyone over.
The whole office buzzed with admiration for her openhandedness. Just looking at Garcia’s elegant clothes and designer accessories, it was obvious she came from serious money—a fact that only made her more popular.
Someone finally voiced the question on everyone’s mind. “Garcia, with your background, why would you want to work at the Frost Group? Your outfit alone probably costs more than our monthly salary.”
Curiosity swept through the room. The sudden arrival of a wealthy heiress had everyone speculating.
But Garcia answered without hesitation. “Actually, I’ve known the CEO since we were kids. I’m not here for the paycheck—let’s just say I’m doing a favor for an old friend...”
Her words, vague but suggestive, hinted at something more between her and the company’s elusive president.
The room erupted.
“No way! Garcia, you and Mr. Austin grew up together?” someone blurted out.
Faces lit up in surprise and excitement, as if they’d just stumbled on the office’s greatest secret.
The revelation was shocking—no one had imagined that the new girl had such a close relationship with the CEO.
Garcia’s cheeks flushed as she looked down, her silence a clear confirmation.
The excitement in the room only grew.
“Oh, so you really are childhood sweethearts! Garcia, you’re too modest. You call yourselves just friends, but it sounds like there’s more to it than that.”
“So, Garcia, are you and Mr. Austin about to make it official?”
For some reason, Garcia felt a flicker of unease and rivalry. Most of the other women in the office were fairly unremarkable, but Rebecca’s striking looks and poised demeanor clearly outshone her own, and that stung.
How could she not feel threatened, knowing someone as beautiful as Rebecca worked so closely with Dylan?
Garcia’s eyes narrowed slightly. Then, putting on a bright smile, she picked up a gift box and walked over to Rebecca. “Hi, I’m Garcia—the new girl. I brought you a little something. May I ask your name?”
Her voice was warm and inviting, her smile sweet—playing the effortless social butterfly.
Rebecca glanced at the gift box but didn’t take it. “Welcome to the admin team. I’m Raina. But you don’t need to bother with a gift.”
With that, she stepped around Garcia and headed straight to her desk.
Garcia stood rooted in place, the unopened gift still in her hands, caught off guard by the quiet snub. For a moment, she simply stared, stunned by the unexpected rejection.
