The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 265

Rebecca pressed on, “You said you wanted to get revenge for Mommy—revenge for what, exactly?”

The four little ones exchanged glances, clearly unsure whether they should confess.

After a moment, Ethan looked at the others, then spoke up. “That mean aunt’s friend sent people to follow Mommy. They wanted to hurt her—even threatened to scratch her face. So… we taught them a lesson.”

Rebecca stared at them, wide-eyed. “You mean, what happened with Emily—that was you four as well?”

Ethan instantly shrunk back, his small body trembling, a look of panic written all over his face.

The other three kids grew tense too, anxiety flickering in their eyes. They all feared Mommy would be angry, and deep down, they were a little scared.

Just as Rebecca was about to press further, her phone started ringing, the ringtone insistent and urgent.

With no choice, she swallowed her questions for now and answered the call. On the other end, George’s anxious voice came through: “Honey, something’s happened! Your grandfather’s in the hospital.”

Rebecca froze, a wave of dread washing over her. “What happened?” Her voice shook, the sudden news clearly rattling her.

George explained, “Your grandfather got so upset with Crystal that he passed out and had to be rushed to the hospital.”

The moment she heard the bad news, Rebecca didn’t have time to worry about what the kids had done.

She ended the call, sprang to her feet, and hurriedly began pulling on her coat. “Your great-grandpa’s in the hospital. I need to get there fast. You guys stay home and be good, all right? Wait for me to come back.”

Noah trailed after her, concerned. “Mom, can we go with you?”

Rebecca paused, frowning as she considered it. “I don’t know what things are like at the hospital right now. It’s better if you all stay home for now.”

She was worried things would be chaotic at the hospital, and taking four kids along would only make things harder.

Evan, eyes wide with concern, piped up, “What’s wrong with great-grandpa anyway? Why did he suddenly end up in the hospital?”

Noah replied, “I heard Mom on the phone—sounds like Crystal upset him so much he fainted.”

Ethan’s hands balled into fists, anger flashing across his face. “That awful woman! She’s the worst!”

He was furious, wishing he could march over and confront Crystal right now.

Aiden’s voice was tight with anger too. “That woman’s always picking on people. We can’t just let her get away with it.”

Evan nodded emphatically. “Yeah, we can’t let her hurt our family.”

Noah thought for a moment, then said, “We can’t rush into anything. Mom told us to stay home, so let’s do that for now. We need to wait until she comes back and we know how great-grandpa’s doing. If things are really bad, the last thing we should do is cause more trouble for Mom.”
