The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 248

Rebecca’s tone was calm and dismissive. “Do you have anything else to say? If not, you can go.”

She was clearly impatient, wanting nothing more than to cut this conversation short.

Crystal scoffed, folding her arms and tilting her chin up with an air of superiority. “Obviously, there’s a reason I’m here.”

Rebecca arched an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.

“I’m here to stand up for Emily. I heard you had someone rough her up so badly she ended up in the hospital.” Crystal’s eyes gleamed with accusation, as if she was certain Rebecca was the culprit.

Lacking any real proof, Crystal was hoping to provoke Rebecca into confessing. Then, she could run straight to their parents and finally show them who Rebecca really was—a disappointment, just like she’d always suspected.

Rebecca met Crystal’s glare with a question of her own. “And where exactly did you hear that rumor?”

Crystal snorted. “Doesn’t matter how I know. I’m sure it was you!”

Rebecca couldn’t help but laugh at Crystal’s misplaced confidence and utter lack of sense.

She ignored her, moving with measured calm as she crossed the room to pour herself a glass of water, acting as if Crystal wasn’t even there.

Crystal’s anger flared at being brushed off so easily.

She felt Rebecca was deliberately belittling her—and dodging responsibility.

“Don’t think you can just stay silent and get away with this, Rebecca! I’m telling you, what happened to Emily isn’t over. I’ll make sure Mom and Dad find out what you’re really like—arrogant and two-faced!”

Damn it. How did she let Rebecca get under her skin like this?

Rebecca watched her with cool detachment. “What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue?”

Crystal bit down on her frustration, glaring daggers at Rebecca.

She had no evidence, and she knew it. There was no way to force a confession.

But she wasn’t about to give up. She’d just have to find another way to bring Rebecca down.

“Fine, Rebecca. Just wait. I’ll find the proof I need, and then we’ll see how you talk your way out of it.”
