The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 235

Emily finally let out a real sigh of relief, knowing she was safe—for now.

But she also understood just how precarious her situation truly was; she’d have to tread carefully from here on out.

“Crystal, don’t worry,” she said hurriedly, trying to reassure her. “I’d never rat you out. As long as I keep my mouth shut, there’s nothing Rebecca can do to me.”

A flash of cold resolve flickered in Crystal’s eyes. “If you even think about betraying me, you’re as good as dead.”

Emily felt a chill run through her. She knew Crystal meant every word—if she dared to talk, Crystal would make sure she paid dearly for it.

Crystal changed the subject, getting straight to the point. “Do you have any idea who sent those people after you?”

Emily shook her head. “They shoved me into a sack—I couldn’t see a thing. When they finally let me out, some guy just slashed my face with a knife. I’ve never seen him before in my life.”

The memory made her stomach twist with fear all over again.

Crystal paused, thinking hard, then snapped, “It has to be Rebecca. Who else could it be?”

Emily hesitated, but Crystal’s words made her doubt even more. “Rebecca? But how would she even know about all this...?”

Crystal let out a bitter laugh. “Why else? She must have figured out what we were up to.”

Emily nodded slowly, admitting the logic in Crystal’s reasoning. “So what are we supposed to do now?”

Crystal frowned, considering their next move. “First, you stick to your story. No matter what Rebecca’s people say or do, you never admit you know me. Second, we need evidence—something that proves Rebecca was behind the attack.”

Emily was still scared, but she knew she had no choice. “Alright. I’ll do what you say.”

Crystal gave her a few more instructions, then prepared to leave the hospital room. Just before walking out, she turned back for one last warning. “Remember—if you betray me, you’re finished.”

Emily nodded quickly, her face pale with fear and determination.

After the dressing was done, Ethan hopped off the chair, his eyes darting mischievously.

“Mom, I need to use the bathroom,” he announced.

Rebecca nodded, reminding him to be careful.

The moment she gave her permission, Ethan slipped away—quiet as a mouse.

In truth, Ethan’s mind had been on Emily all morning. He wanted to check on her, to see how badly she’d been hurt.

He snuck down the hall until he found Emily’s room. Peeking inside, he saw her lying in bed, covered in bandages, her face bruised and cut.

Ethan took out his phone, snapped a discreet photo, and sent it straight to the group chat with Noah, Aiden, and Evan.
