The two adults returned to the living room as if nothing had ever happened.
Meanwhile, the four little ones huddled together in a corner.
Ethan whispered, “What do you think they were plotting just now?”
Noah shook his head. “No idea. But I have a bad feeling about them.”
Ethan snorted, “Exactly. Last time, that wicked aunt tried to team up with her equally awful friend to set up Dad. They wanted to spike his drink, but luckily Noah and I caught on in time.”
Aiden clenched his fists, fuming. “They’ve gone too far. Now that terrible aunt even brought her friend back to our house.”
Evan nodded in agreement. “Yeah, even Uncle Michael doesn’t like them. And Uncle Michael has a good eye for people—if he doesn’t trust someone, there’s definitely something wrong. We have to be careful.”
Noah’s brow furrowed as he spoke seriously, “We need to come up with a plan.”
Ethan’s eyes gleamed. “How about we go tell Grandma and Grandpa, and have them kick those two out?”
Noah thought for a moment. “That won’t work. We don’t have any proof. Even if Grandma and Grandpa believe us, they can’t just throw them out for no reason.”
Ethan grew anxious. “Then what do we do? We can’t just let them stir up trouble.”
A spark lit up in Noah’s eyes. “I’ve got it! I’ll find a way to slip a tracker into her purse. We’ll keep an eye on their every move and wait for the perfect moment to catch them in the act.”
The other three nodded enthusiastically.
Ethan grinned, excitement bubbling in his voice. “No problem—I’ll handle the tracking.”
Noah cautioned, “Be careful, Ethan. Don’t get caught.”
Ethan patted his chest, full of confidence. “Relax. I won’t let you down.”
Crystal, ever the opportunist, noticed and nudged her friend. “Stop worrying about it. I’ll introduce you to someone even better next time. Once I make it big, you won’t have to worry about finding a good man.”
Emily forced a smile. “Alright.”
Just then, as a housekeeper came by to refill their glasses, she accidentally spilled water all over Emily’s dress.
Flustered, the housekeeper stammered, “Oh, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to!”
Crystal was about to scold the housekeeper, but Emily stepped in with a gentle smile, trying to diffuse the tension. “It’s really fine. I should’ve been more careful. It’s not her fault.”
George spoke up, “Crystal, why don’t you take your friend upstairs to change?”
Crystal quickly agreed. “Sure thing.” She led Emily up the stairs.
The four kids exchanged a look, then slipped out of the living room and quietly followed them upstairs…
