The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 178

She climbed into the car, furious, and hurled a string of insults at the gaggle of geese outside the window. “You miserable creatures! Just wait—one day I’ll show you who’s boss!”

The geese seemed to understand her threats, flapping their wings and lunging at the car windows. Mrs. Austin shrieked in fright, hastily rolling up the glass. Her voice shook as she yelled at the driver, “Go—just drive! Hurry!”

The driver didn’t dare hesitate. He slammed on the gas, and the car sped away from the chaos.

Back at Sunset Villa Estates, four little faces peered out from behind a curtain, stifling their laughter as they watched Mrs. Austin’s frantic retreat.

“She totally deserved that!” Ethan doubled over, giggling. “That’s what she gets for always picking on Mom!”

Noah grinned in agreement. “Yeah! Let’s see if she tries that again.”

Aiden and Evan, twins with matching mischievous grins, chimed in.

“The way she was chased around by those geese—it was hilarious,” said Aiden.

“Right? She’s always so mean, but now she got a taste of her own medicine. Serves her right!” Evan added, arms crossed with satisfaction.

But as the laughter died down, Aiden’s smile faltered. “Wait… Do you think we’ll get in trouble for this? What if she comes after us?”

Ethan straightened up, puffing out his chest with bravado. “What’s there to be afraid of? She started it by bullying Mom. We were just standing up for her! If she tries anything again, we’ll just have to think of a new way to handle her.”

Evan clenched his tiny fists in solidarity. “Yeah! We can’t let her push Mom around.”

Meanwhile, the car sped down the road, Mrs. Austin slumped in the back seat, gasping for breath, her heart still pounding from the encounter.

“Ma’am, are you alright?” the driver asked nervously, glancing at her in the rearview mirror.

Mrs. Austin glanced at her disheveled reflection in the car window, her anger boiling over. “First, she smeared my name with those flyers all over the neighborhood, and then had the nerve to deny it! But that’s not all—when I went to confront her, she unleashed a flock of geese on me! I was practically mauled!”

Dylan pinched the bridge of his nose. “Mom, why did you go to Sunset Villa Estates in the first place? If you hadn’t gone, none of this would’ve happened.”

Mrs. Austin hadn’t expected her own son to take Rebecca’s side. Her outrage grew. “Of course I went! Someone had to confront her about those flyers—who else would do something so vile? I’m your mother! I got humiliated today, and instead of helping me, you’re blaming me?”

Dylan’s voice was calm but firm. “Do you have any proof it was her?”

Mrs. Austin paused, caught off guard.

He pressed on, “If you don’t have any evidence, then why go looking for trouble? Mom, you can’t just make baseless accusations.”

Mrs. Austin’s temper snapped. “Looking for trouble? Who else could it be? You’re all completely blind to her! Dylan, I’m telling you, you need to stand up for me—I won’t let this go!”
