“Wait, kid! Do you have any more of those flyers?” A homeless man called out to Louis.
“Matthew, could you spare me a few more?”
“Please, just give me one, please!”
The others who hadn’t managed to grab one pleaded desperately.
Louis quickly waved his hands. “No more, that’s all I’ve got. Sorry, that’s it!”
Without another word, he hurried away from the chaotic crowd.
By the time Louis made it back, he was out of breath, sweat streaming down his forehead. “Young master, they took every last flyer. Can we wrap it up now?”
Noah glanced around at the empty sidewalk and nodded. “Yeah, that’s enough for today.”
Relieved, Louis almost sprinted back to the car.
Two days later, the butler still hadn’t uncovered a single clue.
Mrs. Austin lost her patience again. “What on earth am I paying you people for? How can none of you figure this out?”
The butler could only look helpless. “Ma’am, whoever did this was very careful. And with the whole city’s CCTV system sabotaged these past two days, we haven’t found anything useful yet.”
Mrs. Austin clenched her jaw. “Keep digging. I want that person found, no matter what it takes!”
Just then, Jacob walked in, and Mrs. Austin quickly filled him in on the situation.
Jacob’s face darkened as he listened. “I can’t believe this. Whoever’s behind it must be powerful, to cover their tracks so completely.”
He picked up his phone and called Dylan, relaying everything he’d just heard.
Jacob looked skeptical. “Don’t jump to conclusions. Why would Rebecca do something like that? She’s just a young girl—how would she even pull it off?”
Mrs. Austin’s eyes widened. “Why not? You remember how she acted when she lived with us? She might look sweet and innocent, but who knows what she’s really plotting?”
Jacob thought for a moment. “Even if she knew, there’s no reason for her to go this far. It’s not like we ever treated her badly.”
Mrs. Austin scoffed. “That’s what you think. Maybe she’s resented us for a long time. She didn’t want to have Dylan’s child, fine, but she doesn’t want anyone else to either. That’s why she’s targeting me, to get revenge!”
Jacob shook his head. “Ma’am, you can’t just throw out wild accusations. You need proof before blaming someone like that.”
But Mrs. Austin refused to back down. “Hmph! I know it’s her. I’m sure of it!”
She sat down on the sofa, fuming. “I’m not letting Rebecca get away with this. Not this time.”
