The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 162

Luckily, Rebecca reacted quickly, twisting out of the way just in time.

But in the next instant, the scalding water flew through the air and landed squarely on Dylan as he happened to pass by.

Both Rebecca and Dylan froze, wide-eyed in shock. Linda’s mug slipped from her hand and crashed to the floor.

“I’m so sorry, sir, I didn’t mean to—” Linda’s voice trembled, her face drained of color, and her whole body shook uncontrollably.

Dylan’s expression darkened, his face thunderous. He spoke in a low, icy tone, “You’re done here. Pack your things and leave.”

Linda’s knees buckled; she nearly collapsed right there. With tears streaming down her face, she pleaded, “Please, sir, just give me one more chance—I swear I didn’t mean to do it.”

Just then, Director Porter hurried over, drawn by the commotion.

He stopped dead in his tracks, taking in the chaotic scene. Clearly rattled, he barked, “Linda, collect your things and get out!” Then, turning to Dylan, he asked nervously, “Sir, are you alright?”

Dylan’s eyes were still cold. Hot water had just been poured over him—did he look alright? But he didn’t bother to show any pain.

“Director Porter, escort her out,” Dylan ordered, his tone icy.

Without another word, Director Porter strode over and grabbed Linda by the arm, dragging her toward the exit.

Linda struggled and sobbed, “No, please, sir, I know I was wrong!” But her resistance was feeble compared to Director Porter’s grip.

He showed no mercy, hauling her along as one of her shoes slipped off, her hair tumbling into disarray.

“I swear I didn’t mean to! I’ll never do it again, please don’t fire me, just give me one more chance!” Linda’s desperate cries echoed down the hallway.

Coworkers poked their heads out of offices, stunned by the spectacle.

“What on earth happened? Did Linda upset the boss?”

When she’d finished, she walked out of the office, still weeping, unwilling to accept what had just happened.

Back in the break room, Rebecca swallowed hard, relieved that the boiling water hadn’t landed on her.

She thought Dylan would leave after handling Linda, but instead, he strode straight toward her.

His face was still clouded with anger, his gaze sharp as he fixed it on Rebecca. “What exactly were you two arguing about? The whole office is in an uproar!”

Rebecca frowned. “I didn’t do anything—it was Linda who came looking for trouble.”

Dylan let out a cold snort. “Oh? Then why would she single you out and not anyone else?”

Rebecca bit her lip, then replied, “This all started because of you. If you hadn’t asked me to throw out her afternoon snack, Linda wouldn’t have gotten so upset and tried to get back at me.”

Dylan fell silent, unable to come up with a retort.
