Ethan chimed in, “Yeah, Mom, besides, Uncle Samuel already stood up for us. Everything’s fine now.”
Rebecca let out a gentle sigh. “Sweethearts, I know you’re amazing, but promise me, no more sneaking off to your dad’s office, okay?”
At that, Aiden widened his eyes and asked, “Why, Mom? Is it because Dad doesn’t like us?”
Rebecca paused, rushing to reassure him. “Of course not, honey.”
But Aiden’s lips still pouted, his voice full of disappointment. “Then why won’t Dad let us come to his office? Why doesn’t he ever come home to see us? Can’t you tell him we’ll be really good and listen to everything he says?”
Rebecca fell silent, a wave of sadness tightening her chest. She pulled Aiden into her arms, her voice soft. “Darlings, do you really want your dad around?”
As her question hung in the air, the car grew quiet.
After a long moment, Aiden blinked back tears, his voice trembling. “Mom, I want Dad. I want our real dad.”
Seeing the hope in Aiden’s eyes, Rebecca’s heart ached. She realized just how much she’d overlooked their feelings. The kids rarely mentioned their father, but deep down, they craved his love.
And yet, a headache was already forming. Where was she supposed to find their real dad? She didn’t even know where that man was now.
Ethan tugged at her sleeve and spoke up, “Mom, we won’t go to Dad’s office, but can you go instead?”
Rebecca looked startled. “Me? Why would I go?”
Ethan’s gaze was unwavering. “To help us find Dad, of course! If you don’t spend time with him, how will he ever like us?”
Aiden nodded earnestly. “Yeah, we want you and Dad to be together.”
Rebecca felt completely cornered.
Noah finally spoke up, “Mom, no matter what, we just want a real family.”
Aiden clung to Rebecca’s sleeve, his voice small and sweet. “Please, Mom, just give it a try.”
The kids’ relentless barrage of sweet persuasion left Rebecca defenseless.
After a long hesitation, she finally relented, unable to refuse them. “Alright, I’ll think about it. But you all have to promise me—no matter what happens, you’ll behave and stay out of trouble. Deal?”
The kids cheered, leaping with excitement. “You’re the best, Mom!”
“Hooray, we’re finally going to have a dad!”
They exchanged triumphant glances, the mischief clear in their sparkling eyes.
