Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1664

She stepped out, leaving Anya to take the blame.

Guilt tugged at Anya as she faced Ms. Zheng’s frosty glare. She wanted to say the report wasn’t even hers to handle, but with everyone watching and the tension thick in the air, she knew saying anything would only make things worse. So she swallowed her pride and murmured, “I’m sorry, Ms. Zheng. It won’t happen again.”

A few moments later, the person in charge of printing came by, passing out the materials to everyone. With that, the meeting finally got underway.

After it wrapped up, that same coworker made a show of saying to Anya, right in front of Ms. Zheng, “Everybody messes up when they’re new. Don’t stress—Ms. Zheng’s super understanding, she won’t hold it against you.”

Ms. Zheng nodded, visibly satisfied with the flattery, then strode away.

Anya was left feeling wronged, but there was nobody she could talk to about it.

At lunch, Anya sat in the café, barely picking at her food. She kept opening her phone to Leo’s page, checking it every few minutes, then putting it down with a sigh.

She wanted to message Chad and vent, but she knew that would only worry him.

If Chad found out, he’d probably drop everything, show up at her office, and drag her out—quitting on the spot if he had to, just to make sure she didn’t get treated badly at work.

Milka had been watching her, noticing her mood. She took a bite of her noodles, then picked up a juicy piece of beef and plopped it into Anya’s bowl. “Hey, talk to me. What happened?”

Chopsticks in hand, Anya hesitated. “Milka, my boss called me out in the meeting this morning, but it wasn’t even my fault.”

She told Milka the whole story. When she finished, she poked at her noodles and mumbled, “I can’t tell my parents, my aunts, or Chad. They’d all show up in a flash and haul me away.”

Milka got it right away—someone had set Anya up and then used the chance to kiss up to the boss, stepping on Anya to make themselves look good.

Milka took a sip of her drink, her tone cool. “Anya, come here. I’ll teach you how to handle people like that.”

But after a while, when there was no one left to shield her—when she moved overseas and had to take care of her mom—Milka learned the hard way. Step on enough landmines, and you start to grow up.

Even abroad, plenty of people looked down on her because of her background, always finding ways to make life harder. Milka had eaten her share of bitterness.

Anya puffed out her cheeks, holding back her next words.

After lunch, they rode the elevator up together.

Before heading back to their desks, Milka gave Anya a reassuring pat on the shoulder. “If something at work doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Whenever you’re confused or need help, just come find me.”

Anya nodded, her eyes bright. “Thanks, Milka.”
