Watching her fall, Leonard’s heart broke. “Lillian, leave me! Run! I cannot let my past burden you any longer!”

Lillian forced herself up, wiping a smear of blood from the corner of her mouth. She fixed George with a gaze of pure ice. “If you have the guts, deal with me alone. I’m the one who set the fire. It has nothing to do with my master.”

George’s smile was sinister. “Such a touching display. Unfortunately, I’ve always loathed seeing people play the martyr in front of me. Since your bond is so profound, why don’t we play a game? If you can break through this circle and intercept the bullet before I pull the trigger, I’ll give the old man a pass. What do you say?”

Leonard glared at George, his voice trembling with rage. “You are a lunatic! You took me because of a grudge from twenty years ago. It has nothing to do with Lillian! Why involve her? If you’re man enough, kill me and let her go!”

George turned his cold gaze back to Lillian. “Have you decided? You only get one chance. I’m a man of my word–block the bullet, and I’ll set him free.”

Leonard looked at Lillian, his voice thick with grief. “Lillian, don’t listen to him! That is an order! This is my debt to pay, not yours. Go! Do you hear me? Go!”

Lillian looked at Leonard, a soft, innocent smile gracing her lips despite the chaos. “You’re my master. How could I ever abandon you? I promised I’d take care of you in your old age, and I haven’t even started yet. Don’t worry, Master. I’m going to save you. When this is over, I’m taking you back to Qilin Mountain.”

“Why are you being so foolish?” Leonard cried out in despair. “I told you to leave!”

Lillian turned to George, her eyes sharpening like daggers. “Remember what you said. If I take the bullet, you let my master go.”

“Of course,” George replied with a chilling laugh. “I keep my promises.”
