Rewrite Her Thrilling Life (Lillian and Sebastian) novel Chapter 1147

Meanwhile, inside the dining room at Ravenwood Manor.

Uriel stared at the front-page headlines, so enraged that she slammed the newspaper onto the table. "That old parasite Murphy actually had the audacity to pull this. Issuing a formal statement on behalf of Empire Group. Who does he think he is?"

Derrick continued to eat his breakfast with absolute composure. "He has the leverage. He's the second-largest shareholder, Sebastian has been completely off the grid for days, and the entire business world is saturated with rumors that the chairperson is on his deathbed. Under these circumstances, it's only natural for Murphy to flex his seniority and play king of the castle."

"The absolute bastard," Uriel said sharply. "The moment Sebastian gets back, he needs to completely flush out these old fools. They are getting entirely out of hand."

Derrick set his cutlery down and wiped the corners of his mouth. "Alright, calm down. If I'm not mistaken, they should be pulling up any minute now. After all, they need me to give them a proper account, don't they?"

Uriel looked fierce. "When they get here, don't give them an inch. I refuse to believe we can't keep a handful of old opportunists in their place."

Derrick reached over and gently smoothed her hair. "That's enough. Stop looking at the news and finish your breakfast. You haven't eaten a proper meal in days."

Uriel let out a heavy, ragged sigh. "How am I supposed to have an appetite? Sebastian flew all the way to Murica, and we still don't have any real updates. If Lilian really is gone for good, I'm terrified of what he'll do."

A profound solemnity settled over Derrick's features. "We all have to face reality eventually. Deep down, we've already guessed that Lilian's chances of survival are practically non-existent. Rather than letting him blindly chase ghosts forever, it might actually be better for him to hit a wall and accept the truth. At least a sudden, sharp pain is better than a lifetime of torment. In time, he will slowly learn to live with it. Otherwise, chasing a hopeless illusion will only destroy him."

Uriel stared blankly into space, her voice barely a whisper. "Let's hope so."

The moment the words left her mouth, Louis hurried into the dining room. "Sir, the guests have arrived."

Derrick narrowed his eyes, glancing toward the windows. "They certainly didn't waste any time."

Outside, a fleet of black corporate vans pulled up in a neat row right in front of the main house.
