Louis's sharp retort, while wrapped in layers of professional civility, left several of the directors looking thoroughly displeced. The underlying message was painfully clear: they were being told to mind their own business.
Murphy's clouded eyes flashed with a chilling edge. "I must say, I am deeply impressed by how remarkably bold the domestic staff at Ravenwood Manor are. Truly an eye-opening experience."
Louis offered a perfectly poised smile. "It is entirely due to our master's excellent guidance, sir. If one doesn't follow a truly capable leader, it is all too easy to be led astray. After all, the moment the real authority steps away, second-rate opportunists always try to act like they run the place. But a placeholder will always be a placeholder. no matter how hard they try, they can never match the real thing."
Though he knew it wasn't his place to spark a confrontation, Louis simply couldn't stomach their behavior over the past few days. The sheer hypocrisy was infuriating. The very instant the boss faced a minor setback, these opportunists leaped out of the woodwork, completely forgetting whose unmatched brilliance had filled their pockets with gold all these years.
Murphy fixed a razor-sharp glare on Louis. "A servant should remember his station and hold his tongue. Spewing reckless nonsense is a quick way to bring absolute ruin upon your master."
Remaining entirely unruffled, Louis stood his ground. "As a dedicated butler of the Foster family, I always maintain my station. However, unyielding honesty is also a standard we live by. Speaking the unvarnished truth is considered a virtue, is it not?"
"You!" Murphy spat, his eyes burning with intense fury.
"What seems to be the commotion here?" a mild voice smoothly cut through the tension.
Quivering with rage, Murphy snapped his gaze toward the entrance. "Derrick, your domestic staff possess astonishing audacity. To think a common servant lacks the basic decency to show proper respect to esteemed guests."
