Jane sat with her legs crossed, mindlessly clicking through channels. She thought moving back to Dracovia meant she would finally see Richard, but instead, she was still stuck inside these four walls every day.
“Stop.” Renee’s voice cut through the room. Everyone turned to look at her. She had sat bolt upright, her eyes fixed on the television screen with a look of pure shock.
On the screen, a news anchor was speaking in a polished tone. “This morning, our reporters caught a glimpse of Derrick. The man who once took Kingston by storm has made a surprise return after thirty years. It remains unclear what brought him to the hospital today.”
The footage showed a handsome, composed man holding a beautiful woman’s hand as they stepped out of a car and walked into the hospital together.
Renee stared at the clear affection between them. Her expression twisted into a snarl. “Derrick. I didn’t think you would move that fast.”
Morten was equally stunned. He hadn’t expected the man to actually show up, and even after thirty years, Derrick still carried that same imposing presence.
Jane looked at her mother’s chilling expression and gasped. “Mommy, is that him? Is that Derrick?”
She had always known the man her mother hated was named Derrick, but she had never seen him. He was incredibly handsome. It was no wonder her mother had been obsessed with him for so many years.
Renee let out a cold laugh. “Yes. That is Derrick. The man I have waited for and hated for thirty years. He is finally back.”
As she watched their interlocked hands on the screen, the soul-crushing hatred from decades ago came rushing back. It killed her to see that after thirty years, they were still just as devoted. He still protected her everywhere they went. It was more than she could stand.
Morten watched Renee’s dark expression and felt a chill run down his spine. Everything was moving exactly according to her plan. He could only wonder what her next move would be.
Triny was also dazed. Even though the man on the screen was only shown from the side, she recognized that silhouette instantly. He was the man she dreamed about. That tall, commanding figure was intoxicating.
“See? I told you he would come back” Renee said, her voice dropping to a sinister whisper.
Morten gave a dry laugh. “He’s back, alright. And he brought the love of his life with him. After thirty years, they’re still as in love as ever. Does seeing that make you even angrier?”
Renee huffed. “So what if they are? Soon, I will make them suffer. I’ll make sure the rest of their lives are a living hell”
“Is that so?” Morten asked, a mocking smile playing on his lips. “I’d love to see how you pull that off. Just try not to shoot yourself in the foot. Don’t end up in the abyss while you’re trying to drag them down.”
Renee’s smile turned bloodthirsty. “I fell into the abyss thirty years ago, remember? This time. I’m going to make them pay for who they did. I’m going to make Derrick pay for being so heartless back then.
Morten casually poured himself another cup of tea, took a sniff of the aroma, and raised the cup. “Then I wish you the best of luck.
