The news anchor’s voice caught his attention. When he saw the man’s figure on the screen, his hand froze. “Derrick? He is supposed to be in Murica. Why the hell is he back?”

Richard had first heard that name from his uncle. He knew Derrick was the man Renee truly loved, the one she couldn’t have before she ended up marrying into the Stint family.

Later, because of Sebastian, he had looked into the man’s background thoroughly. But the fact that Derrick had suddenly returned after staying in Murica for so long struck him as incredibly odd.

While he was lost in thought, the door opened and a man in black stepped in. “Sir, the car is ready. We can leave now.”

Richard looked at him. “What has Renee been up to lately?”

“She has been quiet” the man replied quickly. “No unusual activity. Since we teamed up with Mr. Whitmore to take out her bases she has barely made a move.”

Richard knit his brows. Something felt off, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

“Who from the Whitmore family is in the hospital?”

“Greg was in a car accident a while back” the man answered. “They kept it under wraps, but everyone in high society knows. People are just keeping quiet about it.”

Richard wasn’t convinced. “So, Derrick came back because of the accident?” While it made sense on paper, his gut told him there

was more to it.

Seeing his boss’ grim expression, the man in black asked, “Should I send someone to look into it?”

Richard set down his wine glass. “No. Just make sure your men keep a close eye on Renee. That woman is never as obedient as she looks. Her bases might be gone, but who knows what she is plotting in the shadows. I can’t let her cause any trouble before I bring my uncle back. If she snaps, the Stint family will be the ones taking the heat.”

“Understood” the man said respectfully. “When do you leave?”

Richard checked his watch. “Now. My old man has called me several times already. I can’t linger any longer.” He stood up and headed for the door.

The man grabbed the suitcase and followed closely behind.

Derrick’s return had filled the Whitmore family with a long-lost sense of joy.

Greg sat with Derrick and Uriel, sharing stories about the family from the past few years. In turn, they told him about their life Murica. The stories were mundane, but the old man hung on every word.

It wasn’t until night fell that Jared finally had to step in. “Dad, you can’t push yourself like this. You need to rest. Besides, Derrick and Uriel aren’t leaving yet. You have plenty of time to catch up.”

Derrick glanced at the dark sky outside. “He is right, Dad. You need sleep. It is my fault for losing track of tire got carried away.
