Reborn From Oblivion (Nellie and Cameron) novel Chapter 987

Morris let out a dry laugh. “Late-blooming love isn’t even worth weeds.”

Cameron ignored the jab and cut straight to the point. “Why are you really here?”

Morris’s handsome features turned to stone. “I’m here to warn you. Stay away from Nathalie. Don’t bother her. And if you don’t listen, I’ll make sure you wish you’d never been born.”

Cameron just laughed. “What are you so afraid of, Morris?”

Morris didn’t answer, his face still icy.

What was he afraid of, really? He’d always thought he was above fear—life, death, none of it mattered. But in truth? There was plenty that haunted him.

Cameron smirked. “Let me guess—you’re scared that if Nellie ever finds out you tore us apart, she’ll hate you for it, aren’t you?”

He went on, full of swagger. “Nellie’s the kind of woman anyone would dream of—a loving wife and mother. She loves me, she loves Nina. If she ever gets back her lost memories, she’ll remember we were a real family once. I know she’ll come back to us.”

A flicker of doubt crossed Morris’s face. “I’ve cleared every obstacle for Nathalie, given her the future she deserves. I won’t let anyone ruin it. Not even you, Cameron.”

Cameron’s smile turned mocking. “You don’t get to decide Nathalie’s life for her.”

Morris’s lips curled with a dark promise. “But I can sure as hell decide yours. Cameron, do you really think I couldn’t drag you off your throne, toss you into the gutter, and make sure Nathalie never finds you again?”

Suddenly, Cameron grabbed Nina and held her protectively, his eyes wide with fear. “You’re out of your mind. Does Nellie know what a psycho you are?”

“She’ll never know,” Morris replied coolly.

Cameron turned to Nina, his voice trembling. “Nina, remember this man’s face. If you ever see him again, run far away. He’s dangerous—he’d hurt you.”

But Nina brushed his hand aside, her eyes bright and steady. “Daddy, don’t worry. He’d never hurt me.”

He knew he could never give Nellie that kind of devotion.

Morris didn’t let up. “Your love is cheap, Cameron. That’s why I’ll never let Nathalie marry you. I came here today for one reason: let her go. Give Nathalie the peace she deserves.”

Cameron’s heart twisted, his eyes full of longing and regret.

“I’ll treat her well. I swear it.”

Morris shook his head. “I’m not willing to gamble on that. You call yourself a man, but you can’t even cut ties with an old lover. If you can’t let go of the past, you don’t deserve a future with someone new.”

Cameron stood there, stunned, for once forced to face his own failures.

Morris was right. Deep down, he’d always known that letting Greta linger in his life was a betrayal to Nellie. But he’d kept hoping Nellie would just understand—after all, he and Greta went way back.
