Reborn From Oblivion (Nellie and Cameron) novel Chapter 1017

Vivian’s voice was cool and clipped. “Call me Vivian. No need to start rumors. We’re not exactly on a first-name basis, after all.”

Cameron’s awkwardness was almost painful to watch. He hesitated, then asked quietly, “Is that really all we are to you—just strangers?”

Vivian’s expression stayed frosty. “Honestly, we should be enemies. The only reason I don’t treat you that way is because I’m generous enough to let things go. So, to me, you’re just someone I used to know. Nothing more.”

Cameron’s hands shook a little. “Vivian, don’t you get it? We were supposed to be happy together. It was Morris who messed that up. He spent everything he had on fortune-tellers and charlatans, just to twist fate so you’d end up with him instead of me.”

He thought the truth would make a difference.

But Vivian just looked at him, calm as ever. “Cameron, would you really give up everything you own for me?”

“Would you take my illness, carry my burdens, suffer in my place?”

“Would you willingly go through hell, just so I wouldn’t have to?”

Cameron had no answer.

Vivian let out a sharp, humorless laugh. “A loving couple? Is that what you call it?”

“It was always me, putting up with your bad habits, holding things together so our family wouldn’t fall apart. And you call that love?”

“A man who keeps one eye on his wife and the other on his so-called soulmate, trying to play hero to both, isn’t a romantic—he’s just a jerk.”
