Chapter 3
The next day, Jensina’s body clock woke her up. She opened the curtains to see everything covered in white.
The forecast hadn’t mentioned it, but the first snow was coming down heavily.
Through the window, Jensina could almost feel the cold.
She changed into a knit dress and was still washing up when she heard a commotion in the hallway.
It was so loud that she almost believed the renovation had started.
“Susana, what’s going on…” Jensina casually tied her hair back, opened the door, and was taken aback mid–sentence.
It wasn’t renovation. It was chaos.
The usually neat house was in disarray.
A pillow from the downstairs sofa was at her door, with a dark stain.
A vase was shattered, and the pricey oil painting in the hallway was ruined.
It was quite a sight.

Susana was pleading as she chased Joshua, “Josh, please don’t touch that. It’s Mrs. Hardwick’s favorite coffee set…”
Before she could finish, the coffee set was shattered.

Joshua stuck out his tongue defiantly and said, “I want to play! Uncle Coleman said this is my home now. You’re just a maid. Who are you to tell me what to do?”
As soon as he finished, he looked up and saw Jensina staring at him coldly.
Almost instinctively, he shrank back.
Joshua thought, “That bad woman!
“I had nightmares last night, chased by Santa Claus and a monster.
“I want to get rid of her.
“Mom said if this woman left, Uncle Coleman would be all ours.”
Jensina looked calm.’Go ahead. Take your time.”
“Really?” Joshua couldn’t believe it.
He’d wrecked so many of her things, yet she wasn’t angry?
Jensina leaned on the railing, glanced at Juanita downstairs, who seemed oblivious, and smiled, “Sure. But don’t touch the oil painting in the living room. That’s my favorite.”
She wasn’t sure if this was Juanita’s idea or Joshua’s, but it didn’t matter.
She wasn’t innocent either.
Someone had taught her that if bullied, she should pay back tenfold.
Joshua rolled his eyes.“Okay!”
As soon as he finished, he dashed off.
Susana looked helpless.“Mrs. Hardwick, both you and Mr. Hardwick spoil this child…”
“It’s fine,” Jensina said. “Don’t stop him. He’s the only grandson of the Hardwick family. His happiness matters most.
“Juanita doesn’t seem to discipline him either. We should respect her parenting. If something goes wrong, neither of us wants the blame.”
“Alright, Susana said reluctantly.“You’re just too kind, and everyone takes advantage of you.”

Jensina smiled but didn’t respond. Instead, she asked, “Do we have any extra gift boxes at home?”
“Any particular kind you want?” Susana asked.
“Any will do, as long as it fits something A4–sized,” Jensina replied.
“There’s one in the storage room,” Susana remembered. “I’ll fetch it for you.”
After getting the box, Jensina went back to her room.
She placed the signed divorce papers inside and even found a ribbon to tie a bow on the box.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang from downstairs.
Jensina ignored it, focusing on tightening the bow with her fingers. She nodded, pleased with her work.
It was really nice.

Soon, her door was knocked on. Susana said anxiously, “Mrs. Hardwick, come downstairs quick! The little troublemaker ruined Mr. Efren’s work!”
Jensina quickly got up and rushed out, feigning distress.“What? The one in the living room?”
“Yes…” Susana confirmed.
Jensina hurried downstairs, even twisting her ankle in her haste.
Seeing her approach, Joshua defiantly raised his chin, practically asking for a scolding..
