Chapter 23
Autumn and winter were high seasons for illnesses, and Jensina had seen patients for three days in a row. There weren’t that many extra patients anymore.
“Dr. Warren, thank you. Every time I asked for an extra appointment, you agreed.”

I didn’t need to see patients this afternoon. Jensina did special treatment for patients in the clinic. She put in the needles while the patient lay on the exam bed saying thank you.
Almost fifty years old.
It was one of her old patients, had serious kidney disease.
The family situation wasn’t good, lost a son in middle age, and the husband was an old bastard.
Every time she came to the clinic, she had to leave before dawn, take two buses and then switch to three subways from the suburbs to get here.
Probably because doctors are kind, or maybe just out of selfishness, Jensina felt soft–hearted and smiled, saying, “Why thank me? You guys come and pay to see the doctor, and I’m just doing my job to cure you. That’s how it should be.”
“Your coworker at the payment counter just told me,”
Aunt wiped away her tears, “Every time, you paid for my medicine out of your own pocket and gave me a discount, and for special treatment either.”
Jensina was a little distracted, but her hand with the needle was steady, precise, and quick.

After a dozen or so needles were precisely inserted into the special treatment points, she paused for a moment, then smiled faintly and said her own secret, “If my mother were still alive, she’d probably be about your age.”
When she finished speaking, she calmed down and said, “If you need anything, press the call button. I’ll come to take out the needle in thirty
minutes.”
It was almost 3 p.m. when I finished work.
Jensina was starving and found a noodle shop to eat noodles. She called Gertrude on the way.
When she found out Gertrude was busy with the lawyer, she didn’t want to go home too early, so she bought some fruit and went to see
Shanna.
Didn’t expect Pierre was home, too.
The old couple saw her coming and got really happy, “Weren’t you on duty today? I saw the nurse say in the group chat that you were super busy. How come you’re not tired? You still came to see us two old folks.”
“Mainly just came to keep Shanna company.”
Jensina put down the fruit and smiled as she took Shanna’s arm.“I promised Shanna I’d come do some beauty treatments for her these couple of days.”
She liked to study everything about traditional medicine.
She messed around with some herbal skincare stuff when she was bored, and it worked really well. Her coworkers at the clinic kept urging her every now and then to make more.
But the only one she actually did beauty treatments for herself was Shanna.
Shanna raised her eyebrows at her husband, “Did you hear that? They’re here to see me. It’s got nothing to do with you.”
“Heartless girl,”
Pierre glanced sideways at Jensina, “You just couldn’t tell the big joker from the small one.”
Shanna laughed, “Then who did you say was the big joker and who was the little joker?”

“Of course I was, I was the little one.” Pierre was famous for spoiling his wife and was number one at giving in.

Jensina couldn’t help but laugh and went into the pharmacy Pierre had specially set up at home.
Every time she came in, she couldn’t help clicking her tongue. There really was all kinds of rare good stuff.
She opened the cabinet, took out more than ten kinds of herbs one by one, like poria, ginseng, and angelica dahurica, found the tools she had left here, and happily started mixing them.
“Sina, did you want to have sweet and sour ribs tonight?”
Halfway through, Shanna opened the door, poked her head in, and smiled as she asked her, “If you want to eat, I’ll have Pierre cook for you.”
Jensina smiled and nodded, “Yeah, I wanted to. It’s been a long time since I tasted Pierre’s cooking.”
She started learning medicine from Pierre when she was nine, beginning with recognizing herbs.
Every holiday, I came early and left late, Stanley… sent me early and picked me up late.
Later on, it was just her by herself.
Shanna wanted a daughter in the past, but she only had one son. Jensina was such a sweet and gentle little girl who came to her, and at first, she couldn’t even take her eyes off her.
Jensina knew her own taste.
“Okay, you just focus on your stuff. I’ll call you when it’s time to eat.”
Shanna smiled and closed the door for her again.
This girl was just messing around with nothing to do, but you know what, talent was really something God just handed to her.
Every time after using those stinky face masks, Shanna felt like her skin looked visibly smoother and brighter. One small jar lasted her for quite a while.
Those rich ladies didn’t even want to get hyaluronic acid fillers anymore, and asked her what she actually used.
She didn’t know either.
I knew she didn’t want to talk either.
A black Maybach was driving smoothly on the road.
Back seat, Juanita squeezed her palm, “Coleman, what should I say later? Mr. Kline…”
“You didn’t need to be too nervous, Mr. Kline was a kind person, and you were really talented, so you two should have gotten along.”
Coleman spoke gently, “But he retired a few years ago, so he might not want to take students anymore. Today we’re just going to visit him first. If it doesn’t work, we’ll think of something else.”
“He even accepted Jensina, and I graduated from UCLA too, so he probably wouldn’t reject me.”
Speaking of this, Juanita got mad.
She was a year above Jensina, and she really wanted to be one of Mr. Kline’s students, but that year Mr. Kline just didn’t want to take any new
students.
At that time, Lyman tried to pull some strings for her, but Mr. Kline just said he couldn’t help.
So when it was time for Jensina to start school, Mr. Kline wanted to take the class again! And after he finished with her class, he announced he
was retiring!
I don’t know what kind of dumb luck that bitch had,
Coleman had to say,”
“Went to check it out.”
“Yeah!”

Juanita counted on him, ‘Anyway, Mr. Kline had to show you some respect. Coleman, I believed in you.”
This thing, in Juanita’s opinion, was pretty much a sure thing.
No matter how awesome Pierre was, as long as Coleman was generous enough, who could say no to money?
And she wasn’t lacking in ability either. Back in college, Pierre often praised her as outstanding.
Jensina left after she finished dinner.
Shanna walked her to the door, just like when she was little, and told her, “Take it slow, let me know when you get
“Well, you go in now. It’s windy, be careful your headache doesn’t come back.”
