Pregnant with Tycoon's Ex Kneels novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Mery

“Well, I mean the passport.” Jensina casually lied.“Gertrude invited me to go travel in Europe, but I found it too troublesome, so Estella heard about it and said she would arrange for someone to take care of it for me.”

No sooner had she spoken than her phone buzzed.

800,000 dollars had been deposited into her account.

Coleman didn’t press her further, instead shifting the conversation.“You said you needed to talk to me about something. What was it?Jensina paused for a moment, then gently bit her lip, replying, “Just the travel. I thought if I asked you, it would save some trouble.”

“Did I come back too late?”

Coleman chuckled, glancing at the empty gift box on the coffee table. “That was your gift for me, right?”

‘Estella saw it, liked it, and took it,” Jensina answered. “If you want it, just let Estella send you another one next time.”

Coleman nodded, not pushing the matter further.“If Mom likes it, let her have it.”

He showed no interest in digging deeper, much like his entire attitude towards their marriage over the last three years. Jensina had once thought it was because he was gentle and easygoing. Now, she realized it was because he just didn’t care. It didn’t matter if she gave him a gift, nor did it matter who she was. From the beginning, he had kept his distance. But now, Jensina didn’t mind anymore. She smiled lightly and said, “Fine, as long as you don’t expect me to buy another one.”

“Money–grubber.” Coleman shot her a sideways glance.“I’m not stingier than Stanley with you, am I?”

Her nails unconsciously scratched across her fingers, and Jensina smirked. “You’re always generous.”

When she was younger, many of her birthdays were spent with Stanley’s friends.

During the gift–giving part, Coleman always knew just what to give her.

He was never stingy.

He was a gentleman, someone who enjoyed making his friend’s sister happy.

And that was all she was to him–a friend’s sister.

Coleman seemed satisfied with her response, chuckling, “You’re still fighting with Stanley, huh?”

“I’m not fighting with him,” Jensina replied, her tone cool.

She had never fought with Stanley.

When Estella left the house, she forgot to close the door, and the cold wind swept in. Jensina sniffled, not wanting to continue this topic. Looking at Coleman, she said, “Cole, I’m heading out.”

“Off to the clinic again?

Coleman didn’t pick up on the underlying meaning.

Jensina didn’t bother to explain, simply nodding. “Yeah, Eduardo said they’re busy today and asked me to help.”

“Go ahead, do you want the driver to take you?”

“No need,” Jensina declined.“I can go alone.”

She had gotten used to being alone a long time ago.

She pulled on her long down jacket and stepped out into the icy, slippery outdoors, where the sun filtered through but couldn’t quite chase away the chill.

After catching a taxi, Jensina took out her phone and transferred the 800,000 dollars to a charity designated to support girls in impoverished

areas with education.

She wanted every girl to live a real life, one where they could be free, unburdened by the things that weighed her down–not like hers.

Coleman watched Jensina leave, a hint of nostalgia passing through him.

The little girl he once knew had grown up so quickly.

Suddenly, Susana’s anxious voice cut through his thoughts. “Hey! Be careful. Don’t drop that.”

Coleman turned to see Susana directing people as they moved things to the backyard.

He furrowed his brow, walking over. “What are you moving?”

Susana replied, “I’m not sure. Mrs. Hardwick packed it all up and asked me to help ship it.”

Coleman sensed something was off. He tilted his chin slightly.“Open one of the boxes and see.” Coleman sensed something was o

“Isn’t this a little too much? Mrs. Hardwick might not be happy if she finds out…”

“Are you going to listen to me, or to her?” Coleman asked.

“Alright,” she said.

Susana, knowing who paid her salary, grabbed a pair of scissors and carefully started cutting open the box.

Just as she was about to open it, Coleman’s phone rang.

“Let go of me!” Juanita’s voice came through, desperate and panicked.“Cole. Help me!”

Coleman’s face darkened as he immediately sprang into action.

Susana stared at him, confused.“Mr. Hardwick, if you don’t take a look, it’ll be shipped out immediately…”

“Then ship it out, Coleman said, not looking back.

He was burning with urgency, not thinking about anything else.

He grabbed a chair and threw it at the three men.

Jensina arrived at the station, staring at the bruised men, trying to piece together what had happened. “What’s going on?”

“Sina, don’t be angry.” Juanita walked over, her eyes red from crying.“It’s all my fault. I got drunk, and if Coleman hadn’t come…”

The only difference was, the supposed “hero” of the story was her nominal husband.

Coleman looked at Jensina, his expression apologetic.“Sorry to trouble you.”

The officers were surprised at how calm Jensina remained, especially as the original wife.

The officer was impressed. “It’s not easy for an ex–wife to handle things this calmly.”

Jensina didn’t respond.

In her mind, she thought, “It’s fine, I’ve been paid.”

She had done her part to calm the storm for them.

Gertrude had been the one to bring her here, and she was still waiting outside.

Once she finished the formalities, Jensina didn’t feel the need to say anything more to Coleman. She walked out of the station alone.

Unlike the bright sunshine earlier, the weather had turned gloomy, and by just after three, it was already getting dark.

Light rain pattered down, and the cold wind mixed with the rain, seeping into her clothes, making her feel chilled to the bone.

Coleman ran after her, calling out, “Don’t let Mom find out about today.”

Jensina nodded, agreeing promptly. “I know.”

With the Hardwick family’s power and connections, dealing with this small issue was no problem.

But Coleman didn’t use his influence, probably because he was worried that if the Hardwick family and not let him off easily.

And Jensina knew that he was trying to protect Juanita.

Coleman’s gaze remained fixed on her as he lightly laughed and asked, “Are you upset?”

“No,” Jensina said.

“No.”

He had promised that Juanita would move out.

It seemed that promise, too, had been broken.

Jensina found herself grateful that, ever since discovering his affair with Juanita, she had never once considered trusting him.

Trust had always been a luxury for her.

She had given Coleman a chance once, but there would never be a second time.
