Chapter 16
As a married woman, Estella knew what that meant.
Estella’s eyes widened, a look of disbelief crossing her face as she asked, “You’re not joking with me, are you?”
‘I would never joke about something like this,” Jensina replied, lifting her gaze.
Her face was shadowed with melancholy, but her tone remained soft.“Estella, honestly, I can’t think of any other way but to get a divorce.”
Estella was seething with anger, but it wasn’t directed at Jensina.
It was aimed at Coleman and Juanita.
One was clueless, and the other was greedy–constantly eyeing the next thing.
But now that Jensina had made it clear, Estella couldn’t bring herself to say anything that would convince Jensina not to divorce.
She couldn’t bring herself to do that.
Coleman had wasted three years of Jensina’s life.
She had been married, yet she had never even experienced what it meant to be a wife.
Estella took a deep breath to calm herself. She gently patted Jensina’s hand and said, “I saw that in the divorce agreement, you only want the house on Serenity Road?”
“Yes.”
Jensina nodded lightly, her lips pressed together.“If it’s not possible, I might give up the house…”
She was clear about her objective today: to get a divorce.
With the four million dollars she had left, plus her savings, she was set for life.
To everyone else, she had spent three years making a fool of herself, only to end up walking out with nothing–a complete laughingstock in the upper circles.
But she knew it was worth it.
These past three years, she had been free–much freer than she ever was at the Herring’s mansion.
Just looking at the number of times she had been forced to kneel and beaten, she could never regret it for a second.
“What are you thinking?” Estella glanced at her and continued, “If word gets out, people will say the Hardwick family mistreated you. Well, you can stay in that house, and I’ll transfer another one to you, also on Serenity Road.
“One for you to live in, and another to rent out for daily expenses.”
Jensina froze for a moment.
The houses on Serenity Road were all single–family homes. Rent alone started at ten grand–and buying one? Forget it.
Over the years, the Hardwick family had treated her well, but claiming they had deep feelings for her was a lie. Logically, they wouldn’t just give her an extra house for no reason.
She considered how to respond when Estella, almost as if reading her thoughts, spoke again, “Sina, I know you didn’t have an easy time growing up in the Herring family. No matter how much Madam Herring cared for you, you still must have suffered.
“That’s why, when you came to the Hardwick family, we treated you well, don’t you think?”
“Yes, you’ve all treated me very well,” Jensina answered quietly.
She knew that the Hardwick family had never treated her like their own child. If they had been decent, that was already more than enough, especially Efren, who really did care for her.
Estella smiled and nodded, “I knew you were much more reasonable than Juanita. A hundred times better.”

“Sina…” Estella made tea for her and said slowly, “I have a favor to ask. I’m only bringing it up now because there’s no other way.”
Jensina took the teacup. “What is it?”
“I agree with your decision to divorce Coleman, Estella said. “But can you not bring it up with him just yet?”
Jensina hesitated “What do you mean?”

I’ll arrange for the divorce papers to be processed,” Estella explained, her tone firm. “But for now, only you and I will know. I’ll start looking for
a new wife for Coleman. Once the new candidate is settled, we can make the divorce public.”
Jensina understood immediately.
This was to prevent Juanita from jumping in and taking advantage.
The goal was to keep things low–key–no scandals, no mess.
The house on Serenity Road would be her compensation until the new Mrs. Hardwick was chosen.
But Jensina wanted to leave with nothing lingering. She had always hated messy situations.
She looked at Estella, a trace of hesitation in her voice.“I understand your good intentions, but…”
Jensina understood it all now. Those years of pretense were seen through by Estella. But like any clever person, Estella never spoke up unless it was absolutely necessary.
Jensina’s face paled as she loosened her clenched fist, and for a moment, a rebellious thought crossed her mind.“Then how long will that take?”
She knew she was asking for a lot, but she said it anyway. Deep down, she was the type who didn’t respond well to pressure. If Estella used Eliza’s health as leverage, Jensina might have agreed without hesitation.
It reminded her too much of Vanessa’s ways. Jensina lived worse than a dog in the Herring family, yet everyone expected her to feel eternally grateful for their supposed kindness.
“Do you even know what you’re asking? Ungrateful!” Estella snapped, her chest rising and falling with anger.
The sound of the door echoed from the hallway. A black Maybach was parked in the driveway.
He looked weary, his elegant face carrying a hint of fatigue. His coat draped carelessly over his arm, and he stepped into the hall, then froze at
