Susana was momentarily shocked, but she quickly composed herself and answered honestly, No, Mr. Hardwick hasn’t been home these past few days.

She added, not forgetting to defend Coleman, He’s always busy. Don’t overthink it.

Jensina simply nodded, Okay, I won’t.

She had no interest in speculating about her soontobe exhusband’s whereabouts.

After days of poor sleep, she had hoped that lying in the familiar bed would bring her a peaceful night, but instead, she found herself restless.

This place, despite being the same room and the same bed, no longer felt like home.

It was as if everything had stayed the same, yet everything had changed.

She reached for her phone on the nightstand, mindlessly scrolling through Instagram.

Gertrude’s post read, Just sent off my best friend. Now back home to bury myself in these case files.

Jensina smiled and liked the post.

As she scrolled, her finger paused and a post.

Juanita’s post read, You really did it. You promised to protect me forever, always by my side when I needed you most.

The photo showed Juanita lying in a hospital bed, someone feeding her fruit.

Although only one hand was visible, the fingers were long and slender, with a small red mole on the wrist.

Jensina instantly recognized the man in the picture. It was Coleman.

She took a screenshot and quickly forwarded it to Coleman, asking, Still at the hospital? I have something to discuss. Can I come see you

tomorrow?

Since she didn’t come home, she didn’t mind taking the first step.

Divorce was a relief for everyone.

At LAX Airport, Coleman slouched in his seat after the flight, rubbing his temple in exhaustion.

The streets were empty in the dead of night, and his black Maybach glided smoothly through the city. The streetlights flickered, casting intermittent shadows on his sharp profile. Once known for his gentle, refined demeanor, Coleman now exuded a cold, distant aura.

His assistant softly asked, Mr. Hardwick, are we heading to the office or Oakwood Villa?

Let’s stop by the office first, Coleman replied, his voice thick with fatigue.

The day Jensina had been discharged, a fatal incident occurred at a project for the Seattle Branch of the Hardwick Group. Coleman had flown out immediately, suppressing the news and working nonstop for days to clean up the mess.

Meanwhile, back at the headquarters, plenty of work had piled up. He worked through the night, ensuring everything was set for the next day’s operations.

The entire burden of the Hardwick Group rested on his shoulders. He couldn’t afford to relax.

Suddenly, his phone lit up. It was a message from Jensina, and for a brief moment, he let out a breath of relief.

He’d sent her a message that day, but she hadn’t replied. He assumed she was still angry, thinking he’d give her some space before he returned home to calm her down.

He picked up the phone, but before replying, he called Juanita.

When was this photo taken?

Juanita, drinking at a bar, made her way to a quieter spot. What photo?

Coleman didn’t waste time, his voice tired as he said, The photo you posted on Instagram just now.

Juanita froze.

That Instagram post, seen only by those connected to the Hardwick family, was clearly meant for Jensina.

Coleman immediately pieced it together. You deliberately made sure Jensina saw it, didn’t you?

There was a long pause on the other end, and Coleman’s voice grew sterner. You didn’t need to do this. Jensina is simplehearted. She doesn’t have any ulterior motives.

What do you mean by that?”

This should be my question,Coleman replied.

I did it on purpose.Juanita, unbothered, decided to be blunt.

She added, I wanted her to know that the one you care about and the one you’ve always been there for is me. It’s always been me! I’m scared that if you don’t divorce her or you’ll still care for her

Nita

Coleman sounded frustrated, loosening his tie. I’m the same age as Stanley. I’ve seen Jensina grow up. She’s like a sister to me. If I were to have feelings for her, what’s the difference between me and a monster? Can you think rationally for once?

Juanita pressed on, Then when are you going to divorce her?

Lately, divorcefelt like everyone’s favorite word for him.

It seemed as though everyone believed that divorce was what he needed to do.

But only he knew that every time he heard that word, it felt like a lump in his throat, choking him.

Coleman wasn’t sure why. Maybe it was because divorcing would affect the Hardwick Group’s stock price, or maybe it would ruin Juanita’s

reputation.

One thing he knew for sure. He couldn’t divorce Jensina.

Without thinking, he answered firmly, It’s never going to happen.

The next day, Jensina woke up groggily and checked the time. Only then did she see Coleman’s reply, What’s going on? I’ll explain when I get

home.

Jensina had a pretty good idea of what he was doing. He probably didn’t want to bring her into things in front of Juanita.

He was likely worried she would throw something at Juanita’s head again.

But for Jensina, that response was enough.

Once he came back and explained, she could finally leave this housethe one that no longer made her feel safe.

After freshening up, Jensina got dressed, ready to head downstairs. Just before exiting the walkin closet, she paused, a thought creeping into

her mind.

Coleman wasn’t exactly the type to dote on his wife, but for all the social events requiring a female companion, he would always bring her

along..

And, occasionally, there were moments when she had to accompany him.

Because of that, her closet was full of designer clothes, jewelry, and handbags.

The Hardwick family had never been short of money. After the divorce, all of these would be sent to their final destinationthe trash.

Since that was the case, she had an idea.

Jensina reached out to a charity, donating everything. The clothes were taken by the organization, and the proceeds were used to help fund the
