Chapter 10
Jensina felt overwhelmed and trapped.
She considered divorce but knew she couldn’t fall out with Coleman.

She lightly scratched her fingertip with her thumb and met Coleman’s gaze.“How am I supposed to clear things up? They already got photos.”
Coleman, worn out by Juanita’s drama, said, “But they didn’t get a shot of Nita’s face.
Jensina felt a lump in her throat as she spoke gruffly, “So you’re saying I should fake it online, claim I’m the one in the photo?”
Her question was simple and direct.
Or, she totally didn’t expect Coleman to make such a ridiculous request.
She thought, at most, she just needed to step up and explain it was all a misunderstanding, like the girl in the photo was just a friend or something.
Coleman pursed his lips and spoke evenly, “I couldn’t come up with a better plan. This way, the gossip will fade fast. It’s for the best for the Hardwick Group’s business and everyone involved.”
Everyone involved?
Jensina clutched the quilt tightly.
He referred to Juanita, right?
Coleman always looked out for her, no matter what. He’d put her first without hesitation.
Yet, Jensina would be pushed to the forefront by him without a second thought.
Jensina managed a weak smile and said, “Okay. I promise you.”
He didn’t give her a choice, but Jensina knew his style.
Coleman stayed calm.“I know this is tough. Sina, I’m trying to make it right.
“You can invite Gertrude to go shopping tomorrow. Buy what you want.”
As he spoke, he handed her a check.
Jensina didn’t move. He placed it on her pillow.
Then, he got out of bed and left.
He did it all in one go, afraid that if he stayed here even a second longer, it’d be hard to explain to his sweetheart.
After he left, Jensina picked up the check and took a look at it.
3 million dollars. It was a good deal.
For Coleman, it was a great deal.3 million dollars for a hassle–free crisis management.
For her, it was pretty worth it, too.
Jensina logged onto social media, switched accounts, and posted, “Stop the rumors. It’s me in the photo. Just a silly moment between spouses.”
Her job was done. She put away the check, turned off the light, and went to bed.
As she lay there, memories from when she was seven flashed back.
She recalled kneeling on the stone path outside the Herring’s mansion, being scolded.
It was just that, when Vanessa told the servant to hit her, a thirteen–year–old boy with a black armband showed up and stood firmly in front of her.
He said, “Since you don’t like her, she’ll move to my yard from now on.”

< Chapter 10
He pulled her away, saying she was useless, that she never fought back.
Even up to now, she could still remember his thin, straight back when he stood in front of her to protect her.
In the dark, Jensina suddenly raised her hand and covered her eyes.
Her palm was all sweaty.
Her clarification made Juanita feel smug for days. Juanita had no interest in dealing with her.
Coleman had made his choice clear.
He kissed someone else, and Jensina had to cover for him.
It was obvious who was more important.
Jensina didn’t care what Juanita was showing off. She just stayed in her room and slowly packed up everything she could take with her.
She had few clothes, but lots of books she loved.
Many found traditional medicine dull, but Jensina enjoyed it.
She wasn’t leaving those books behind.
She found boxes, packed the books, and planned to store them at Gertrude’s place first.
Anyway, Coleman was too preoccupied to notice anything missing from her room.
She was tidying up when her phone rang. It was Pierre Kline, her teacher.
Four years ago, she could’ve joined the top Haystone Hospital.

Getting into such a good hospital in her early twenties showed real talent and strength. It was easy to imagine how far she could go with time.
But Vanessa ruined her chances,
No one would hire her after that.
Pierre encouraged her, “Don’t lose hope.”
He then quietly got her a job at Eduardo’s clinic.
Jensina answered, hearing Pierre’s upbeat voice, “Sina, not busy lately, right?”
“No, I’m good,” she replied..
Jensina chuckled, “Going on vacation with Shanna? Need me to water your plants?”

“Look at what you said. Am I really the kind of person who only shows up when I want something?”
ELE
Pierre hesitated, “Remember that group learning the special treatment in the clinic? Their Traditional Medicine Research Institute is opening. Can you and Eduardo come for the ribbon–cutting on my behalf?”
Jensina nodded.“Yeah, I remember. It is like overseas, right?”
“Germany,” Pierre smiled. “I remember you happened to have learned German. That’s perfect.”
Jensina sighed, “When are we leaving?”
“One week later.” Speaking of this, Pierre felt a bit guilty.“The 31st.”
It was Coleman’s birthday.
For years, Jensina cleared her schedule for Coleman’s birthday, decorating and cooking.
But he never showed up.
