Eugene came over and grimly announced, "I just received word that the general who's friendly with Carl is on the move. Looks like he's targeting the boats around the island."

Alfred frowned. "Things are simple if that's all, but I doubt it. This feels like a guise for something else Carl has planned."

"For now, all we can do is take one step at a time. I've also tipped off that general's biggest rival, so our people won't be in any danger."

Alfred nodded. That was all they could do right now since there was no predicting what the lunatic Carl had up his sleeve. Just then, a nurse rushed out. "He's awake!"

Cedric? Alfred and Eugene rushed through the door almost immediately and saw Cedric with his eyes open, but there was a strange emptiness in them.

For a moment, Alfred felt his heart ache for Cedric. No one knew what kind of damage Carl's injection might have caused.

"Do you remember us?" he cautiously asked.

Cedric turned in his direction and gave him a look like he'd just asked the dumbest question in the world. Then, he propped himself up, holding his head.

"What the hell are you talking about? It's not like I lost my memory."

Alfred let out a sigh in relief, murmuring, "That's great."

Cedric's hand instinctively went to his neck as he asked, "What did Carl inject me with?"

Truth be told, he'd thought he was done for. If Carl had stuck him with something, odds were it'd probably be harmful or lethal. And fortunately, he'd survived.

Alfred cleared his throat before saying, "I'll tell you, but you'd better brace yourself. We ran blood tests, and our guess is that it was the same drug he gave Noelle."

"You mean I'll eventually forget everything, even her?" Cedric's head snapped up.

"That's what our theory suggests, which is why I asked if you remembered us.

"But the injection doesn't act right away. It took over a month on the island before Noelle forgot everything."
