It was deep in the night. Cedric hadn't moved from the deck at all. He stood guard and watched as the doctors moved in and out of the cabin, each one sighing.

Eugene grabbed him back and said, "You need to calm down. They're still running tests."

As he stared up at the night sky, Cedric slammed his fist into the railing.

"Is there nothing you can do?" Cedric asked in a sharp voice.

"Apologies, but in such a short time, we can't research any drugs that could alleviate her symptoms."

"Then start now! I don't care what it costs; I can afford it!" Cedric snapped.

"It's not about money. We can research drugs that help her, but she can't wait any longer. For every minute that passes, the damage worsens. It might result in…"

"In what?"

"Permanent nerve damage. She might wake up intellectually impaired or never regain consciousness. There's also a chance she might end up paralyzed."

Upon hearing that, Cedric grabbed the doctor by the collar. "Say that again! Are you saying she's gonna fall into a coma?"

Eugene quickly pulled him back. "Enough! Calm down!"

"How do you expect me to calm down?" Cedric's eyes were bloodshot. "I can't see her turn out this way. I lost. I'm admitting defeat."

"Let's just send her back to the island, then. As long as she's alive, there's still a chance we can get her back."

Cedric breathed in deeply. After some time, he managed to force out the words to say, "Take her back to the island."

"I know you're hurting, Cedric. But if she's alive and healthy, the Liddells won't stand a chance. We'll grab or steal her if we have to."
