BONUS CHAPTER 2
SASHA’S POV
“It’s… it’s… never mind,” I said quickly, cutting myself off because I didn’t want it to spill not when Anna was supposed to be happy.
“Sasha?” Anna said on the phone. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing,” I said too fast. “It’s just that I’m so overwhelmed with happiness. I’m really happy.”
And that was when the tears came even though I was trying so hard not to cry.
“Sasha,” Anna said immediately, her voice changing, “are you crying?”
“No,” I lied instantly, then laughed, a stupid forced laugh that didn’t sound real at all. “I mean yes, but not like that, I’m just emotional, you know how I get.”
“Sasha…” Anna said again, slower now, “are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yes. Yes, I’m sure,” I said, nodding even though she couldn’t see me, wiping my face quickly like that would fix anything.” Please enjoy your honeymoon, my love, don’t worry about me, okay?”
“You’re really sweet,” she said softly, sounding relieved. “Alright, I’ve got to go now, talk to you later, love.”
“Okay,” I whispered. “Later.”
The call ended.
The second it cut, I broke down crying.
I didn’t even try to hold myself together anymore. I slid down against the couch, clutching my phone as my body shook, the sobs coming hard and ugly, my chest hurting like it was being squeezed from the inside.
“No… no…” I whispered, even as my fingers unlocked the phone again.
The pictures were still there.
Chris.
On a bed.
With another woman.
Both of them naked.
My stomach turned so violently I had to swallow hard.
“After everything,” I said out loud, my voice shaking. “After everything you promised me Chris…”
I scrolled down, even though I knew I shouldn’t, even though my hands were shaking so badly.
Then a message came in.
STAY AWAY FROM MY MAN. OR ELSE…
I gasped softly.
Then another message.
AND ONE MORE THING, ELIMINATE THAT PREGNANCY AND IF YOU REFUSE TO, I’LL SEND THUGS AFTER YOU TO ELIMINATE IT FOR YOU.
AWORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE,
Itroze
“What? How? How does she know?”
My hand went to my stomach automatically, pressing there as if I could protect it just by touching it.
“No,” I said softly, shaking my head. “No, this doesn’t make sense.”
“I didn’t tell anyone,” I whispered, my breath shaky. “I didn’t tell Chris. I didn’t tell Anna. Nobody knows.”
My mind started racing.
“So how?” I whispered to myself. “How does she know about my baby?”
I wiped my face roughly, my chest still hurting.
“What am I supposed to do now?” I muttered.
I thought of Anna and immediately shook my head.
“No,” I said firmly, “I can’t tell her. She’s on her honeymoon.”
