HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 737

Chapter 737

The next morning, the atmosphere inside the mansion appeared perfectly normal.

The servants still moved back and forth carrying breakfast trays. Soft instrumental music drifted faintly from the main hall. Even the backyard garden looked peaceful, with workers busily tending the plants just like on any other day.

And yet, Naomi could still feel the difference.

There were more guards stationed around the property now.

Several men dressed in black took turns patrolling the mansion grounds with small communication devices attached to their ears. Even the guard dogs that had roamed around the previous night were still positioned near the back gate.

The mansion no longer felt like a home.

It felt more like a fortress.

Even so, Naomi was deeply grateful for one thing. Lydia was trying very hard to act as though everything was normal. She still invited Naomi to have breakfast together, casually chatting about light things like lunch menus and the drama series they had watched a few days ago.

As if whatever had changed inside this mansion was something ordinary.

But remembering the stories Lydia had shared about her previous life, Naomi doubted Lydia was actually used to any of this either. She was simply trying her best to make everything feel normal for Naomi’s sake.

Naomi truly was lucky to have her beside her right now.

“If you keep making that face, people are going to think you’ve been kidnapped,” Lydia commented casually while pouring tea.

Naomi sighed softly. “Honestly, that’s exactly how I feel.”

Lydia laughed quietly. “At least your kidnappers are ridiculously rich.”

“And annoying,” Naomi added without hesitation.

“That part, I agree with.”

The two of them ended up giggling together, and the tension hanging around them gradually loosened.

The sound of approaching footsteps made Naomi turn immediately.

Cale appeared wearing dark formal clothes that made him look much colder than he usually did in the mornings. His hair was neatly styled, and his expression had once again become unreadable. But the moment he saw Lydia and Naomi sitting together laughing, one of his brows slowly lifted.

“I’m starting to think this house has become too peaceful,” he commented flatly.

Naomi clicked her tongue softly. “Mr. Miller, does your life always revolve around creating chaos?”

“Usually.”

Lydia held back a small laugh while pulling out a chair for Cale.

Breakfast passed far more peacefully compared to the previous few days. Even though the mansion’s security had clearly tightened, Lydia continued trying to keep the atmosphere normal so Naomi wouldn’t feel even more pressured.

And maybe because of that, Naomi was finally beginning to relax little by little.

At least until Cale suddenly said, “Get ready. We’re going out.”

Naomi immediately froze with her glass halfway to her lips. “Going out?”

“You can’t stay locked inside the mansion forever.”

Naomi blinked at him in confusion. “Someone tried to break in last night.”

“That’s exactly why you need to start getting used to this.”

Cale’s answer was so calm that it only made Naomi feel even stranger.

Lydia noticed the shift in Naomi’s expression immediately and quickly spoke up. “I’m coming too.”

Naomi turned toward her at once. “Really?”

“Yes.” Lydia gave a small nod. “Besides, I don’t have anything to do today anyway.”

Naomi still looked hesitant, but eventually she let out a resigned sigh. “Alright.”

A few hours later, three black cars left the mansion under heavy escort. Naomi sat in the back seat beside Lydia, while Cale rode in the front with Daniel. Throughout the drive, Naomi caught herself glancing several times at the vehicles trailing behind them.

“Mr. Miller,” she called suddenly.

“Hm?”
