Chapter 736
She had done the same herself, yet she still couldn’t fall asleep before making sure her husband was okay.
The moment she saw Cale walking quickly down the corridor alongside Liu, her brows immediately furrowed. ” What happened?”
Cale paused briefly.
But before he could answer, the crackling voice from one of the guards’ communication devices echoed faintly from the end of the corridor.
“The rear area has been secured.”
“Make sure there are no blind spots,” Liu ordered firmly.
Lydia instantly realized that something serious had happened.
“Did someone try to get in?” she asked softly.
Cale gave a faint smile as he walked toward her. Once he stood close enough, he leaned down and pressed a light kiss to her forehead. “They won’t succeed,” he answered shortly. “You know the mansion’s security is extremely tight, right?”
Lydia tried to remain calm.
Even so, it would be a lie to say she wasn’t worried. And for the first time, she truly realized something.
The danger surrounding Naomi was far more real than she had imagined all this time.
This was no longer just about dangerous people chasing a girl over debt. Something much bigger was moving around them now. And Lydia was certain it was connected to the group of people who had shown up at Cale’s office earlier that day.
“Go back to your room. I’ll come to you once I’m done checking everything,” Cale said as he gently rubbed both of Lydia’s arms.
Lydia stared at him for a few seconds before giving a small nod. “Alright. Come back quickly. I don’t like sleeping alone.”
Cale’s gaze softened for the briefest moment before he finally turned and continued walking with Liu.
Meanwhile, in another room inside the mansion, Naomi couldn’t sleep at all.
She stood beside the bedroom window, staring out at the mansion grounds now filled with additional guards. Several outdoor lights had been turned much brighter than usual. People moved quickly around the back garden while speaking through communication devices.
Not only that, a few guard dogs were roaming around as if searching for something. The sight slowly tightened Naomi’s chest. She wrapped her arms around herself quietly. What was actually happening? Was this connected to Mr. Liu’s arrival earlier? Had he brought bad news?
And all of this… was it because of her?
Her head ached from thinking about all of it.
Naomi let out a long breath before finally stepping out of her room. Her throat had felt dry for a while now, and for some reason, she didn’t want to stay alone inside that bedroom any longer. But she had barely taken a few

steps down the main staircase when two guards immediately moved toward her with sharp alertness.
“Miss Naomi, do you need something?”
Naomi looked slightly startled. “I… I just wanted to get a drink.”
“I’ll get it for you.”
“No need.” Naomi shook her head quickly. “I can do it myself.”
Even so, the two guards remained standing not far from her.
Watching her.
Protecting her.
And somehow, without realizing it, it made Naomi feel like a prisoner.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t even complain because she had no idea what kind of situation was unfolding inside this mansion right now. If all of this really was connected to her being here, did she even have the right to protest?
Naomi exhaled softly before continuing toward the small kitchen downstairs. Only then did she notice someone standing in the middle area of the mansion’s main hall.
Cale.
He stood near the large window with one hand tucked casually into his pocket. Under the dim night lighting, his figure looked colder than usual.
Their eyes met by accident when Cale suddenly turned his head, probably after hearing Naomi’s footsteps. The unexpected eye contact made her hesitate for a few seconds before finally walking closer.
“What’s actually going on?” she asked quietly.
Cale observed her for a moment before answering, “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
“Don’t dodge the question, Mr. Miller.”
The corner of Cale’s lips shifted faintly.
Naomi glanced briefly toward the outside grounds crowded with guards. “I’m not stupid enough not to realize something’s happening.”
Silence stretched between them for a few seconds before Cale finally spoke.
“Someone tried to enter the mansion.”
Naomi’s breath caught instantly. “Were they looking for me?”
“I think so.”
The answer came far too quickly.
