Chapter 734
Night slowly settled over the mansion after their long conversation in the gazebo.
The atmosphere inside the house felt far livelier than it had in days. From the main kitchen, the aroma of food gradually filled the air. Lydia, who had stubbornly insisted since the afternoon on cooking dinner herself, eventually dragged Naomi in to help her.
“I already told you I’m not very good at cooking,” Naomi complained while awkwardly chopping vegetables.
“Then how did you survive all those years in Berlin?”
Naomi clicked her tongue in annoyance. “There’s plenty of instant food at supermarkets, you know.” She stared at the pitiful-looking chopped green onions in front of her and grimaced. “Oh my God, doesn’t this look terrible?”
“It’s fine.” Lydia smiled patiently. “I actually need them cut into bigger pieces anyway. And you’re doing well.”
“Ugh,” Naomi groaned, though she couldn’t exactly refuse unless she wanted to keep being assigned this job.” You’re seriously good at cooking, huh?”
“Not really. I’m not as amazing as you think.”
“Liar,” Naomi scoffed immediately.
Lydia let out a soft laugh while stirring the soup simmering on the stove. “Why would I lie?”
“Because I hear Cale praise you all the time. Not just your cooking, either. There are a lot of things he compliments about you.”
Lydia looked at Naomi for a long moment before saying, “You know something?”
“What?”
“Cale is also very good at lying just to make me happy.”
Somehow, the atmosphere between them had become unexpectedly comfortable. Even a few of the servants nearby secretly exchanged glances with each other. Ever since Naomi arrived at the mansion, this was the first time they had seen her genuinely relaxed.
“When exactly have I lied?”
The sound of approaching footsteps finally echoed toward the kitchen.
Naomi instinctively turned around. Lydia did too.
Cale had just walked in wearing dark casual clothes after showering. His hair was still slightly damp, and his expression looked far more relaxed compared to when he had left earlier that morning. Without hesitation, he walked straight toward his wife.
“You’re done already?” Lydia asked, her voice noticeably brighter.
“Yeah. And…” Cale glanced around briefly before looking back at the kitchen. “What am I getting tonight?” A faint smile touched his lips, but the moment his gaze landed on Naomi, his brows pulled together deeply. “Am I hallucinating right now?” he asked flatly.
Naomi rolled her eyes instantly. “You’re unbelievably annoying. I’m helping Mrs. Lydia cook.”
“Suddenly, I’m doubting how tonight’s soup will taste.”

“Cale,” Lydia warned with a long sigh.

Handling these two really felt exactly like dealing with Josh and Grace. Neither side ever wanted to back down, and somehow everything always turned into an argument.
“Instead of making things chaotic, just taste the soup already.” Lydia carefully held out the wooden spoon toward him. Every now and then, she blew gently over the steam so it wouldn’t be too hot.
Cale obeyed without much complaint. After tasting a spoonful, he nodded once. “Not bad.”
“NOT BAD?” Lydia shot him a sharp glare immediately.
Naomi burst into a quiet laugh at Lydia’s offended expression.
And hearing that laughter made the atmosphere in the kitchen suddenly feel strange to Cale.
For the past few days, the only things he had seen from Naomi were fear and anger.
Not this.
In the end, Cale decided he probably shouldn’t stay in the kitchen area at all. He moved to one of the dining chairs instead, waiting for everything to be finished so they could eat together. Leaning back comfortably, he watched the two women of different ages with an oddly puzzled look in his eyes.
Especially Naomi.
