It cut through the line, sharp and distressing.

Cale rose to his feet immediately. The movement was too abrupt to be called calm. His chair scraped harshly against the floor as it shifted back.

“Was that Lydia?” His voice was no longer flat.

For a fraction of a second, the control he had always maintained slipped. His eyes sharpened, his breath caught, as if the space around him had suddenly narrowed.

Liu quickly covered part of the phone’s microphone. “Sir, Mrs. Lydia and Miss Naomi are on their way back. Daniel reported that a vehicle has been following them since the shopping center.”

“Give it to me,” Cale said, already stepping closer.

“Please stay calm, sir.” Liu gave a slight shake of his head, though his tone remained measured. “Daniel still has the situation under control. I’ve already instructed another team to move.”

From the other end, Daniel’s voice came through again, mixed with the roar of the engine and the unmistakable sound of something colliding.

Liu’s focus sharpened. “Daniel, stay steady. Do not stop. Take an alternate route and avoid crowded areas. Backup is on the way to your location. Remember, your priority is Mrs. Lydia and Naomi. Whatever happens, make sure they’re safe.”

Cale stood still, but there was nothing calm about him. His hands had curled into fists, his jaw set tight. He didn’t interrupt, yet all his attention was locked onto that call.

A few seconds passed, stretching far longer than they should have.

Liu finally ended the call, drawing in a deep breath before turning to Cale. “They’re still being pursued, but Daniel is trying to put distance between them.”

The room suddenly felt colder.

“Who?” Cale asked, his voice low again, but this time edged with something far sharper. “Who would dare do this to me?”

Liu shook his head slowly, unable to meet his gaze. The anger radiating from Cale was overwhelming. “We can’t confirm yet.”

The silence didn’t last long.

Brandon, who had been sitting quietly the entire time, finally leaned forward slightly. His expression shifted, no longer relaxed but intrigued.

“Interesting,” he murmured.

Cale turned to him, his gaze cutting. “You know something?”

Brandon held his gaze for a few seconds, then let a faint smile form on his lips. It carried no warmth at all. “It seems my foolish brother has actually gone through with it.”

The words sounded light, almost casual, but their impact was immediate.
