HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 702

Chapter 702

“Why aren’t you getting in?” Naomi asked, her curiosity finally slipping into her voice.

Lydia had been acting strange for a while now. No matter how Naomi tried to ask what was wrong, Lydia never gave a straight answer. She always chose that same polished smile, the kind that hid more than it revealed. And this time, Naomi’s suspicion only deepened. Even when Naomi told her to get in and make herself comfortable in the passenger seat, Lydia didn’t move right away. Instead, she lingered outside, her gaze sweeping the area as if she could feel someone watching them.

“It’s cold out here,” Naomi said again.

“You’re right.” Lydia cleared her throat softly, then finally stepped inside and shut the car door. She leaned back into the seat, letting out a quiet breath as if releasing a weight she had been holding in. Naomi still had the paper bag resting in her lap, her phone tucked inside, while Lydia turned once more to glance at the building behind them.

That uneasy feeling still hadn’t left her.

Daniel sat in the driver’s seat, his hands steady on the wheel. “We’ll head straight home, Mrs. Lydia. If there’s anything else you’d like to buy, we can arrange it once you’re back,” he said briefly.

Lydia nodded, though something in his tone felt… different. The car pulled smoothly out of the parking area, gliding past rows of lights that shimmered against the slightly damp pavement.

The first few minutes passed normally. Naomi leaned back and exhaled. “I didn’t think shopping could be this exhausting.”

Lydia gave a faint smile. “That’s because you’re not used to it yet.”

But it didn’t take long before Lydia noticed something off in the way Daniel was driving. His foot pressed a little harder on the gas than usual. The engine’s vibration crept subtly through the floor, growing into a low, steady hum. His hands moved swiftly on the wheel, precise and unwavering. And his eyes… they weren’t just fixed on the road ahead. Again and again, they flicked to the rearview mirror, catching reflections with an intensity that didn’t go unnoticed.

“Daniel?” Lydia called softly, though a tightness had already begun to form in her chest.

“Please remain seated, ma’am,” he replied without turning his head. His voice was firmer than usual, calm but carrying a warning that needed no further explanation.

Naomi stiffened instantly. “What’s going on?” Her voice came out sharper than before, her fingers instinctively gripping the edge of her seat.

Daniel didn’t answer. Instead, he turned the car more quickly than Lydia expected, steering into a different road she didn’t recognize. The movement was too controlled to be panic. Lydia’s body shifted slightly with the turn, her shoulder brushing against the door before she steadied herself again.

She frowned. She wasn’t entirely familiar with every street in Hong Kong, but one thing was certain. This wasn’t the way home. The city lights she usually recognized now felt unfamiliar, stretching into a long, directionless corridor. (

“This isn’t the way back,” Lydia said quietly, her voice beginning to lose its calm edge. “What route are you taking, Daniel?”

Daniel drew a short breath, as if holding something back. “I’m aware, ma’am.”

That answer did nothing to reassure her. If anything, it made her heart pound faster, as though trying to warn her of something she hadn’t fully grasped yet.

“Can someone please tell me what’s happening?” Naomi asked, her voice starting to tremble. She turned slightly, glancing behind them without even realizing it, her eyes searching for something she couldn’t yet define.

At last, Daniel glanced at them through the rearview mirror. His gaze was sharp, measured. There was no panic in it, only a quiet vigilance carefully masked by composure. “There’s a vehicle that’s been following us since the shopping center. I’m trying to

confirm it first.”

Those words shifted the air inside the car.

“What do you mean, following us?” Naomi’s voice dropped, almost a whisper.

Lydia was no longer just confused. That strange feeling she’d had earlier, the fleeting shadow in the parking lot, the sensation of being watched, now began to take shape. This wasn’t coincidence.
