HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 575

Chapter 575

Daven straightened to his full height. “So far, there’s been no sign of that. She’s a cheerful kid. Polite. She respects Riana. And we’ve all seen for ourselves where she’s choosing to stand.” His voice softened just slightly. “I’ve investigated her behavior at school too. She acts like any other student. No trouble. Nothing alarming.”

“Maybe because she understands her position,” Nathan murmured. “If she acts out, Chase Miller’s name would take the hit. The public originally believed she was his biological daughter.”

“You’re right,” Daven agreed without hesitation. He paused, choosing his next words carefully. “Why am I making this decision? I don’t think it’s just sympathy.” His jaw tightened, but his gaze remained steady. “It’s responsibility. She didn’t choose the family she was born into. And she certainly didn’t choose to be raised by Selena.”

Arsen flipped open his notebook. “Legally speaking, if Selena receives a heavy sentence, Eli will become a minor without a legal guardian. We’ll need to determine the form of protection.”

“For now,” Daven said, decisive again, “she stays in the house. Her status doesn’t change. We arrange a new school. A better environment. No media pressure, no whispers reaching her ears. She deserves to live like a child her age at least for now.”

Nathan nodded in agreement. “A child who’s abandoned can become far more dangerous than a child who’s guided.”

Chris looked at Daven once more, searching his face. “And you’re sure this is the right move?”

Daven didn’t waver. “I see no reason to let her carry all of this alone.”

Cale’s lips curved into a faint smirk. “Besides, as long as she’s under our roof, she’s within sight.”

Richard jotted down notes quickly. “I’ll handle the school transfer and the administrative process. Her old records will be sealed.”

The television screen, which had gone dark earlier, flickered back to life with a brief replay. Harold’s face appeared once more-no longer powerful, no longer feared. The news cycled through updates about the three figures who had shaken SunCity, one after another.

Daven watched for a moment before speaking, his voice quiet but unyielding.

“Harold and Selena are responsible for their actions. But Eli isn’t.”

Around the room, heads slowly nodded.

“All right,” Chris said at last. “We’ll give her a chance.”

Nathan exhaled softly. “That poor kid shouldn’t have to shoulder everything by herself.”

Cale folded his arms across his chest. “If she chooses the right path, she’s safe. If not…”

He didn’t finish the sentence.

He didn’t need to.

Daven already understood. He stepped back to his desk and switched off the television completely.

“I also need to discuss this with Mrs. Miller and Althea,” he said. “This isn’t just a legal matter-this is about her protection, about giving Eli a future that’s at least somewhat normal. And it’s a decision that concerns both of them.”

No one objected.

“In that case, let me speak to Riana,” Nathan offered. “And your wife, Daven. You don’t mind, do you?”

“It seems the decision not to turn on the TV in any room was the right one,” Riana said, quietly observing the rhythm of the house around her.

Now and then, Grace’s laughter drifted in from outside-bright, unburdened. The little girl was swimming with Eli after finishing a mountain of overdue schoolwork. Somewhere else in the yard, Josh’s voice carried faintly as he trained with the private coach Daven had arranged before he returned to school full-time.

“I think so too, Mom.”

That afternoon, the Miller residence felt warmer than it had in weeks. The sun was beginning to dip westward, its golden light spilling through the tall living room windows and glinting softly against the long glass-topped table.

“What would you like for dinner, Mom?” Althea asked, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between them.

“You don’t need to trouble yourself. Let the staff handle it,” Riana clicked her tongue in mild disapproval. “You should be resting. Take care of your health.”

want to,” Althea replied with a faint smile. There was something stubborn yet tender in her tone. “How neatball soup? You like that, don’t you?”

could Riana possibly say to that?

In the end, she rose and followed her daughter-in-law into the kitchen, waving for a few of the household staff to assist and pay close attention to Althea’s instructions.

Althea stood at the counter; a soft cream apron tied neatly around her waist. Her hair was pulled back in a simple knot, though a few loose strands framed her face. Riana sat on a stool near the kitchen island, slicing fruit with steady, deliberate movements, her eyes never straying too far from Althea.

“Everyone’s coming home together today,” Althea said gently as she shaped the meatballs with careful hands. ” Daven said once their final meeting ends, they’re heading straight back.”

“Good,” Riana replied, a small smile forming. “Then tonight’s dinner needs to be enough for everyone. We’ll treat it as a celebration-the return of peaceful days in this house.”

“You’re right, Mom.” Althea’s smile widened, brighter now. “Oh, I should talk to Lydia too. I heard she just signed a new project here in SunCity.”
