Chapter 454
Daven chuckled softly. “I have. I had dinner with Arsen earlier.”
“At least you didn’t skip dinner,” Althea laughed lightly. “All right then-I’ll get the bath ready for you.”
“Don’t bother,” Daven stopped her gently. “You must be tired after taking care of everything else. I can handle this myself. Just sit down and wait for me to finish.”
Althea looked at him, unable to hide her concern.
“I’m serious.” Daven pressed a brief kiss to her forehead. “Enjoy your tea, love. I won’t be long.”
“All right,” Althea finally relented.
She wanted to say something more, but Daven had already headed toward the bedroom. She held herself back. Over the past few days, Daven had been like this more often-physically present, yet his mind seemed elsewhere. His behavior hadn’t changed, not on the surface, but Althea could sense the weight pressing down on him. From what she overheard-his conversations with Nathan, calls from Arsen, or brief discussions with Cale-she was increasingly certain of one thing: the storm hitting Callister Group was no small squall.
The sound of running water echoed from the bathroom. Althea sat back down on the sofa. She turned on the TV and chose a short drama channel to keep her company while she waited for Daven. Every now and then, she sipped her tea and reached for the snacks laid out on the glass table in the living room.
Daven’s phone, left behind on the table, began to vibrate.
Not just once, but repeatedly—as if tonight’s call couldn’t wait. Argen’s name flashed on the screen.
Althea hesitated. But the phone kept buzzing, insistent, urgent. She took a breath and answered.
“Yes, Arsen?” she greeted carefully.
“Good evening, Mr. Da-ah, Mrs. Althea?” There was a pause on the other end. “Mrs. Althea… I’m sorry, I didn’t expect you to
answer.”
“How are you?” Althea tried to sound casual, even though she wasn’t used to picking up calls on Daven’s phone. Still, it seemed Arsen had something pressing.
“I should be asking you that. I hope you’re doing well.”
Althea chuckled softly. “If you’re looking for my husband, he’s still cleaning up. Would you like me to pass along a message?”
Arsen was silent for a moment before replying, “No need, Mrs. Altea. I’ll contact Mr. Daven again in a little while.”
“Is it something urgent?”
“N-no,” Arsen answered quickly.
But that response only deepened Althea’s suspicion. “I just want to know,” she said gently, yet firmly. “What is really going on? I can see that Daven is under a lot of pressure. I’m his wife. I have the right to know how serious this situation is.”
Arsen cleared his throat awkwardly. “Mr. Daven asked me not to discuss any details.”
“I’m not asking for details,” Althea said. “I just want to know how serious the crisis at Callister Group really is. Is it dangerous?
For Daven?”
Arsen’s voice dropped when he finally answered. “To be honest… not supposed to say this, Mrs. Althea.”
“Just tell me. I need to know.” Althea let out a long breath. She shifted restlessly in her seat itself, but because of the pressure and everything her husband was facing out there.
not because of the conversation
“If this isn’t resolved soon… Callister Group could be on the brink of a major collapse.” Arsen finally spoke, his tone so low it was as if he hoped she wouldn’t hear him.

Althea froze. “What?”

“Many of our programs have gone far off track,” Arsen continued reluctantly. “Funds have been leaking across several divisions. The signs point not to negligence, but to structured corruption. If a full audit is launched, the impact could be enormous. And right now, several cases are suddenly being watched by the Attorney General’s Office.”
“But Daven isn’t involved, right?” Althea asked quickly.
“No,” Arsen replied firmly. “Of course not, Mrs. Althea. Mr. Daven is not involved. That’s exactly what’s hitting him the hardest -he had no idea about these leaks. It’s as if he’s being played from all sides.”
“Then… what is Daven going to do?” Althea’s voice trembled.
“You don’t need to worry, Mrs. Althea. Mr. Daven will find the best way out.”
Althea’s hand clenched tightly. “Even so… Callister Group will still be affected, won’t it?”
“Who are you talking to?” Daven asked, his brows drawn together His hair was still damp, and he was wearing his bathrobe. He had meant to ask Althea to help dry his hair, but hearing her voice mid-conversation, he had assumed she was speaking to Lydia -until now.
Althea lowered the phone slowly. “Arsen.”
Daven’s jaw hardened. “I told you-” He moved toward her quickly.
“I know,” Althea cut in. “But I needed to know how much pressure you’re under.”
Daven looked at her for a long moment, then let out a heavy breath “I didn’t want you to worry.”
