HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 441

Chapter 441

Elsewhere in the city, Cale was moving in the opposite direction-oward a place he used to frequent. He drove himself, hands steady on the wheel, eyes focused through the traffic ahead. His phone vibrated on the center console. Erick’s name lit up the

screen.

“What is it?” Cale asked bluntly as soon as the call connected. The road stretched toward the western outskirts of SunCity.

“We’ve found a fairly clear connection,” Erick said, tension evident in his voice. “The doctor who signed off on the initial DNA test-he has a history of meeting with Harold.”

Cale frowned. “When?”

“The day after Harold was released from prison,” Erick replied quickly. “We traced it through parking lot surveillance and dinner transactions. They met in a private venue. It wasn’t long, but it was intense enough.”

Cale smiled faintly. The scattered pieces in his mind began to form a clearer thread. “Good. That means we can’t afford to waste any more time.”

“There’s one more thing,” Erick continued. “That doctor isn’t acting alone. Someone is setting the pace for him.”

“Is it Selena?” Cale cut in.

Erick paused for a fraction of a second. “We can’t confirm yet, but”

“No need to confirm right now,” Cale said calmly. “Just keep the doctor under surveillance. Don’t touch him yet. If there’s a safe opportunity, bring him to Oscar’s place. I want them face to face.”

“Understood, Mr. Cale.”

The call ended. Cale glanced at his watch. Right on time.

The car veered off the main road, entering a stretch lined with towering trees on both sides. Their trunks rose close together, forming a natural corridor that fractured the sunlight into scattered shards. The air here was more humid, tinged with salt-a clear sign that the coastline wasn’t far.

There was almost no activity. A few old buildings stood far apart, some resembling long-abandoned warehouses. The asphalt was rough, the lane markings faded. This place had been chosen deliberately isolated enough to avoid attention, yet close enough to the city should circumstances shift quickly.

Cale slowed down, his gaze sweeping the surroundings. No suspicious vehicles. No sounds beyond the faint crash of waves and the rustle of leaves stirred by the wind. He turned off the audio that had accompanied him throughout the drive, letting the

silence do its work.

Oscar wouldn’t be unfamiliar with places like this, he thought briefly. Places that made people feel alone, cut off-and eventually, willing to talk. And if talking still wasn’t an option, Cale had more than enough effective ways to pry a mouth open.

He stopped in front of a low building with dull concrete walls. A heavy steel door stood shut, guarded by two men who barely moved. As soon as the car came to a halt, one of them opened the door without asking a single question.

Cale stepped out, straightening the cuffs of his shirt. His expression was calm, but his eyes were cold-the kind of calm that unsettled people.

“Still silent?” he asked as he walked in.

“Since yesterday, Mr. Cale,” the guard replied curtly. “He says you’re just wasting your time.”

Cale smiled faintly. “Then it’s time we corrected that belief.”

He moved down the narrow corridor toward the room at the very end. Behind that door, someone who believed himself safe was about to learn that not all silence was a choice. And not all secrets could be kept forever.

From the outside, the building where Oscar was being held looked like an old warehouse-unremarkable, unthreatening. Inside, however, the security was layered. Deliberately so. Cale wasn’t entirely convinced yet that their enemy was exactly who

he suspected. But if his instincts were right, these layers would be tough to repel any attempt to extract Oscar.

That was, of course, assuming Oscar was valuable enough to be rescued from the confinement Cale had arranged.

Cale entered without a word. The steel door slammed shut behind im with a heavy sound. Oscar sat on a metal chair, his hands loosely restrained, his face pale-yet his eyes still carried traces of arrogance. Bruises were clearly visible on his face, and scratches marked both his arms and legs.

The moment he saw Cale, Oscar let out a short laugh.

“Back again?” he mocked. “I told you already. You’re wasting your time.”

Cale pulled out a chair and sat across from him, close enough to feel oppressive. “I never come to waste time.”

“There’s nothing you can dig out of me,” Oscar sneered. “I’m just a pawn. Even if I talk, you’ll never reach the one with the brain.”

“How amusing,” Cale replied lightly. “You think I’m looking for the brain?”

Oscar narrowed his eyes. “Then what?”

“The ties between you,” Cale answered, slowly rolling up his sleeves. “Just one will be enough.”

Oscar snorted. “You’re not getting anything from me.”

Cale stood. He walked to the corner of the room, picked up a thin folder, then tossed it onto the table in front of Oscar. Photographs scattered across the surface-images of meetings, transaction records, fragments of data that looked random at first glance, yet were clearly interconnected.

“Harold,” Cale said flatly. “You know him.”
