In the distance, Jonathan Lamont watched Norah Lamont riding a horse, his brow deeply furrowed.
He thought things were progressing between Norah and Xavier Flemmings, but in just a few days, it had taken a sharp nosedive.
Estelle Macclain said softly, "Should we find an opportunity for them to sit down and have a real talk?"
She knew Xavier better than anyone. She didn't believe Xavier felt nothing for Norah; maybe he just hadn't realized it himself.
Jonathan, however, wasn't optimistic. "Norah knows exactly what she wants. It's Xavier who keeps rejecting her. Talking won't change anything! Regardless of whether he likes her or not, the fact that he's hesitating proves his feelings aren't deep enough."
It wasn't a matter of life and death for him, which wasn't fair to Norah.
His voice turned somber. "She's been chasing him for years with nothing to show for it. It's time to stop. If this incident finally snaps her out of it and helps her move on, it might not be a bad thing."
Thinking about all the effort and heartache Norah had endured, Estelle couldn't argue. She nodded faintly. "Then I hope she gets over it quickly."
Jonathan turned back to her, leaning in to press a kiss to her lips, his gaze softening. "You didn't sleep well last night. Want to find a place to rest?"
With people all around them, Estelle was still a bit shy about PDA.
"Let's just keep Norah company. She just went through a heartbreak. Do you mind not rubbing our relationship in her face?"
Jonathan chuckled softly. "The Lamonts aren't that fragile."
Estelle shrugged, changing the subject. "I want an iced soda."
Jonathan frowned. "Swap the soda for juice."
"Fine, but I want it on ice!"
"Deal."
He walked off to get her drink.
Estelle looked at Norah's figure in the distance, a pang of pity tightening her chest.
