Gabriel led Sylvia back to the Quintin family home. As they walked through the courtyard, Sylvia looked at the scenery, and a strange sense of familiarity washed over her, as if from a long, long time ago, almost like a past life. It felt like she had been here before.
“What’s wrong?” Gabriel asked, turning back when he noticed she had stopped.
Sylvia looked into his eyes and shook her head slightly.
“Getting cold feet? The Sylvia I know isn’t afraid of anything. You’re scared of a little scene like this?” Gabriel teased, but he turned back to take her hand, leading her forward.
When they entered, everyone was waiting in the living room.
Seeing them arrive together, Old Mr. Quintin was the first to stand up, asking excitedly, “Are the results in?”
“They’re in!”
Gabriel handed three copies of the results to Old Mr. Quintin, Georgia, and Old Mr. Jarvis, respectively.
Old Mr. Quintin’s hands trembled as he took the report, his eyes scanning it quickly. The room fell silent as everyone watched the three of them read.
Georgia read the fastest. When she reached the end, she froze completely, then shot her gaze toward Sylvia, her eyes filled with shock.
Then, an overwhelming wave of joy washed over her. “Sylvia, are we really…”
She could hardly believe it was true.
It had been so long, twenty years. Time had buried everything from the past, and now, all those memories were rushing back, making it all feel as unreal as a long dream.
Old Mr. Quintin also looked stunned, his hands shaking as he held the report. He looked at Sylvia with tears in his eyes.
The others could guess the result from their reactions and all turned to look at Sylvia, their eyes filled with disbelief and joy.
