“My past?”
Ruby frowned, clearly surprised by his answer.
Landon nodded, his expression open and composed. “Your childhood, your school days, and your past with him—I want to know everything. I may not have been a part of it, but I’ll make up for it.”
Though his words were spoken with conviction, they felt incredibly heavy to Ruby.
She rubbed her temples, her gaze flicking over to Hayley.
She didn’t say a word, but her look clearly meant, “Who told you to give him that idea?”
Hayley felt a strange sense of shame and quickly looked away.
“None of that has anything to do with you. You don’t need to go to such lengths.”
Ruby had to turn back to Landon, her tone flat.
But Landon was clearly dissatisfied with her dismissive attitude.
“Of course I do!”
He shook his head firmly. “Hayley was right, and she reminded me. I can’t go back to the days I wasn’t by your side, but I deserve to know about them.”
Ruby was once again reminded of the stubbornness Hayley had mentioned, and she shot her another helpless look.
Hayley’s eyes darted away again, avoiding her gaze.
“Fine, I won’t interfere with your plans. If you really want to know, Fanny and Hayley are aware of it all. You can ask them, but whether they tell you anything is their business.”
Ruby threw up her hands in a gesture of mock surrender. She glanced at the towering Veyne Tower before her eyes settled back on Landon. “But don’t go looking for Cassian because of me. We’re divorced, and I don’t want to get tangled up with him again over this.”
Hearing this, Landon brightened with a naive joy and nodded immediately, his happy gaze turning to Hayley.
This time, Hayley didn’t look away. Instead, she glared right back at him.
But he just smiled, a hint of pleading in his expression as his eyes remained fixed on her.
Ruby watched their exchange with a sense of resignation before finally interrupting, “Alright, let’s head back for now.”
Only then did Landon leave, satisfied. Hayley suggested he stay at a hotel, but he flatly refused.
“I want to stay somewhere near Quinborough University.”
