After a long moment, Cassian sneered. “What right do you have to ask me these things?”
His cold gaze swept over Landon, filled with undisguised contempt.
“I want to understand her past. Even though you're history, you're still a stain on it.”
Landon's clear blue eyes were completely unaffected by Cassian, blinking at their usual calm pace.
But the blunt words made the temperature around Cassian drop to freezing.
His jaw tightened. For a moment, he wasn't sure if this man was here just to provoke him.
“Why don't you ask her yourself?”
Cassian tried to keep his tone even, but his words still came out through gritted teeth.
Landon shook his head. “I would never bring up her disgraceful past in front of her.”
This remark was enough to make Cassian choke with rage.
A disgraceful past?
“Get out,”
he said, his face darkening.
Landon seemed to have anticipated this reaction, so he showed no particular emotion.
“Just as I thought,” Landon nodded thoughtfully. “No wonder Ruby left you. I can't imagine what she was thinking back then.”
“Get out!”
Cassian finally roared, unable to contain his anger.
“So emotionally unstable.”
Landon remarked, dusting off his knees before standing up.
He left with that parting shot, leaving a grim-faced Cassian sitting alone.
He clenched his fists, like a lion holding back, on the verge of exploding.
His deep, cold eyes shot up, staring at the closed door as if he could burn a hole through it.
Even though the man was gone, his clear, disdainful voice seemed to linger in the air.
No wonder Ruby left you… I can't imagine what she was thinking back then…
The two sentences were like a pair of swords, each one plunging deeper into his chest.
