Chapter 363 He Betrayed You

I frowned the moment he spoke. “Did you get lost again?”
He turned to me with a look of surprise. “Huh?” he muttered.
I tilted my head to the side while looking at him.

He seemed a lot better than the last time I saw him. However, it was weird to see him here when I knew nobody lived within this perimeter. Abel lived isolated from the rest of his pack. So, the only explanation was that he got lost. Otherwise, he would have come here deliberately.
A strong gush of wind entered the window once more, making my nightgown hitch up.
My eyes widened when I heard his breath hitch. I looked at my thighs and saw they were fully exposed.
I grabbed the blanket from the couch and covered myself with it, glaring at him.
He raised his hands in surrender. “Blame the wind, not me.”
I sighed and wrapped myself even tighter. “What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Wait, answer this first,” I added quickly. “What even is your name, and where are you from?”
“Isn’t it obvious that I’m from here?” he asked.
I frowned. “You don’t look like it.”
He leaned against the wall, crossing his arms.
“And I guess,” he said, ignoring my insinuation, “you can just call me Axe.”
“Axe?” I repeated.
“Yeah.” His eyes showed amusement. “The way you say my name sounds nice.”
My cheeks heated, though it wasn’t from embarrassment. It was irritation. “You really are a pervert,” I muttered, glaring at him.
He chuckled. “And you really speak your mind.”

I sighed and turned away, leaning against the window. I could still feel his eyes on me, but I ignored him. He felt unpredictable, but not immediately threatening. Still, I kept my blanket tight around me.
“You talk like you know me,” I said, staring at the trees swaying outside. “But you don’t.”
“Maybe not.” he said. “But I do know what I see.”
I rolled my eyes, even though he couldn’t see my face from this angle. “What do exactly?”
“Someone pretending not to be scared of being alone.”
That made me pause. I turned to him.
“You sound like someone who talks too much,” I said.
you see,
He smiled faintly, like that amused him. “Maybe. But I also sound like someone who listens, don’t I?”
I shook my head and gave a quiet, humorless laugh. “You think too highly of yourself.”
“Someone has to.”
“Wow.” I turned back to the window, my reflection faintly mirrored in the glass. “You really don’t stop, do you?”
“No point in stopping when the conversation’s good,” he said. “You’ve got a sharp tongue for someone wrapped in a blanket.”
I tugged the blanket higher, rolling my eyes again. “I just don’t like when people make themselves too comfortable in other people’s homes.”
He bummed, tilting his head slightly. “I wasn’t planning to. But it’s interesting here. You’re interesting”
I sighed, pressing my forehead against the cool windowpane. “I’m not interested. I’m just trying to live. You feel like the type of person who doesn’t know how to do that properly.”
He paused for a while, and I could feel his gaze on me. “You really do speak your mind, huh?”
“Life’s short,” I said. “Too short not to say what you want.”
“Of course, you should filter things,” I added, “but what I’m saying is, why care what other people think when you’re not hurting them?”

“I’m going to be honest because I can,” I continued quietly. “That’s something I learned the hard way.”
I turned to him, watching how a small smile formed on his lips.
“Admirable,” he said after a second, smirking again, “for a little human.”
I sighed and shook my head. “Why did you even come here?”
“Answer my question first,” he countered smoothly.
“What question?”
He took a slow step closer. “Are you infatuated with him already?”
I froze. The way he said “him” made it clear who he meant. Abel.
I looked away, my heartbeat thudding softly in my ears.
The word itself sounded so shallow. It wasn’t that.
I turned back to Axe, and I didn’t hesitate to answer.
“Infatuated?” I repeated quietly, a small smile tugging at my lips. “No. I love him already.”
His smirk faltered slightly, replaced by something I couldn’t quite name.
Love wasn’t something I planned, or even understood. It was something that happened the way the sun rose–inevitable and unstoppable.
He frowned deeply. “You love that man?”
“He’s not hard to love,” I said softly, my thoughts already drifting to Abel. “He’s rough around the edges, but he’s kind. He cares for me. I can see that. He’s so cute sometimes, too.”
Axe let out a low scoff, one that sounded like disbelief. “You realize you’re saying that about a thirty–four–year–old man?”
“Why does that matter?” I asked, genuinely confused.
His gaze lingered on me, like he was trying to see past my skin and through my words.
Finally, he spoke. “Will you love him even without the title?”
I frowned, turning slightly toward him. “Without his title?”

“Yes.”
There was no hesitation in my voice. “Yes,” I said simply. “Of course.”
His breath hitched–so faintly I almost didn’t notice. I also saw the small tremor in his shoulders and the way his fingers twitched slightly against his side.

I smiled to myself, because I knew the truth of what I felt. “I’ve never even thought about that. The title doesn’t matter to me. I haven’t felt this way before… and I’m happy it’s with him.”
For a moment, Axe didn’t move. Then I saw his jaw tighten.
My heart skipped. The energy that once felt teasing and curious now felt… wrong.
“Axe?” I asked carefully, but he didn’t look at me.
The room seemed to darken as his eyes lifted to mine. The warmth from before was gone, replaced by eeriness.
“Would you even love him,” he asked slowly, “if you knew he would cause your death?”
I swallowed, tightening the blanket around myself. “You’re not going to change my mind,” I said, not answering his question.
He smiled then, but it wasn’t pleasant. “I’m telling the truth.”
“No, you’re trying to scare me,” I countered, forcing myself to meet his gaze. “And it’s not working.”
“You wouldn’t know about these things,” he said quietly, stepping closer. “But I know him well.”
I felt my heartbeat thud harder. “What are you saying?”
He tilted his head, his smirk returning. “He deceived you, little human. That man doesn’t love you. He only wants an heir for his title.”
“That’s not true,” I said with resolve. “You don’t know him like I do.”
He chuckled darkly. “You think you know him because he held you close once? Because he kissed you?”
“You don’t know what he carries inside him. You don’t know what kind of blood runs through his veins.”
He was in front of me now. “Do you know what happens when a human falls in love with his

He didn’t even give me the time to answer.
“You die,” he said.

He smiled cruelly, savoring the look on my face. “Because giving birth to his child leads to the death of his mate–especially his human mate.”
“So you see, little human,” he murmured, “your love story isn’t the fairytale you think it is. It’s a curse waiting to happen.”
“And he knew it straight from the beginning.”
