Chapter 362 You’re Not Pure

Chapter 362 You’re Not Pure

You’re not pure.

My heart skipped. Huh?

You’re not pure,it said again, firmer this time.

I’m telling you so that you wouldn’t feel defeated.

Rememberyou’re not pure.”

Then, I gasped awake, clutching the sheets. I pressed a hand over my heart, feeling it pound so fast it hurt. What was that?I whispered.

That was the first time I had ever seen something like it, or even heard something like it. I’d had nightmares before, but they were always the kind that made sense. The kind Princess or Queenie would cause when my mind replayed the ugly things they said. You’ll never be enough. Everything you have is mine now.

Those were normal nightmares. Predictable ones.

However, this one came out of nowhere.

I rubbed my eyes and sat up, glancing around the quiet house. Morning light spilled faintly across the wooden floor. I wondered if Abel had already come backif maybe that dream was just my brain overworking itself from waiting too long.

Will he really be here?I muttered, hugging my knees.

He promised.

Abel always kept his promises. At least, he had so far. Still, I couldn’t shake the uneasiness in my gut. The dream lingered like a shadow I couldn’t step out of. You’re not pure. What did that even mean? Was it supposed to be about me?

I sighed and got up, dragging my blanket with me. The floor was cold against my feet as I padded toward the kitchen. The sound of a key turning in the lock stopped me.

My heart jumped. Then the door opened, and the man I had been waiting for came in.

His hair was slightly messy, his clothes rumpled like he hadn’t slept much. However, that was the least of my problems. He actually came back.

I made it,he said breathlessly. I kept my promise.

For a second, I couldn’t move. My heart just melted. I felt my lips curve without even meaning

  1. to.

You did,I murmured. I honestly thought that what happened in Ylarc was just straight out of my imaginationone that could have not possibly happened. However, seeing him in front of me solidified that it was real.

He gave a quiet smile. With that, I opened my arms. It was instinct, really. His arms slid around me, pulling me close, so close I could feel the steady beat of his heart through his chest.

Did I keep you waiting?he asked against my hair.

I shook my head, my words muffled against his neck. No.

He smelled different todaysweeter somehow. I didn’t know how that was possible, but I didn’t question it. I just let myself sink into the feeling of being held.

We stayed like that for a while, just breathing each other in like we hadn’t seen one another in

years.

When he finally pulled back, I thought I could breathe again. But then he looked at me; and it stole the breath right out of my lungs.

AbelI whispered.

His hand came up to cup my cheek, thumb brushing lightly across my skin. My heart stopped. Then, before I could even think of what to say, he kissed me,

It wasn’t like our other kisses.

It wasn’t teasing or patient or uncertain. It was deep and desperate. His lips crashed against mine with a hunger that stole my balance, and I whimpered into the kiss, gripping the front of

his shirt.

He tilted his head, deepening it, and I felt his breath tremble against me. My mind went blank.

I couldn’t keep up. I didn’t even know if I wanted to.

When he finally pulled away, my lips tingled, swollen and red. I stared at him, breathless and dazed. Abel,I whispered again. Wait-

He looked down at me like I was the only thing keeping him from falling apart.

What happened to you?I murmured, still panting. Why do you feel so different this morning?

His expression softened, his thumb tracing my jaw. His lips parted like he was about to speak.

Luna. I realized something.

I waited for what he was about to say next.

I lo-

The door slammed open, making me jump. Abel spun around instantly, his body moving in front of me like a shield.

Whoa, hey!Tyson blurted, freezing in the doorway. His hands flew up in surrender.

My eyes widened. I instinctively grabbed the hem of my nightgown and pulled it down, covering myself even though I was already clothed. Still, the sudden intrusion sent a rush of heat to my cheeks.

Abel growled under his breath. He reached behind him, tugging me slightly closer so that his body blocked me completely from Tyson’s view.

Tyson looked at us, realization dawning in his eyes. Oh. Oh, shit. My bad!He turned around immediately, facing the wall. I didn’t mean to intrude, man! I swear, I won’t look at your angel.

Your angel.

My cheeks flamed hotter, and my heart betrayed me by stuttering at the sound of it. The way Tyson said it didn’t help at all. But what really got me was Abel’s reaction. He didn’t deny it.

He just kept glaring.

When I gave you the spare key,” Abel said tightly, I told you to use it sparingly.

Tyson scratched the back of his neck, still turned away like a scolded kid. Yeah, yeah, I know, I justthis one’s an emergency, Sort of.”

Abel’s tone sharpened. What kind of emergency?

Tyson hesitated, then exhaled. The Judicial Council’s here.”

For what?

I frowned and looked up at Abel. His jaw clenched as he brought a hand to his face, massaging the bridge of his nose. Then I heard him mutter, Bad timing.

What’s going on?I asked softly.

He turned to me, and though he tried to smile, I could see the conflict in his eyes.

I need to go again,he said finally.

The words hurt a little, even though I knew he wasn’t leaving because he wanted to. Go ahead. Justcome back.

I will.

Tyson was standing in the corner, turning in circles like a child. His tall frame didn’t fit the energy of someone so fidgetyit was quite funny, if the moment weren’t so serious.

Stop spinning before you drill a hole into the floor,I muttered.

He grinned sheepishly. Sorry, Luna. Your Alpha’s aura is too difficult to handle sometimes.

Abel ignored him, leaning down instead to press his forehead lightly against mine. Stay safe,he murmured.

And just like that, he was gone.

I watched from the window as he and Tyson headed down the path, their figures growing smaller until they disappeared through the forest. My fingers lingered against the cold glass.

Was I crazy for thinking he’d been about to say something important before Tyson barged in? NoI couldn’t have imagined that. There had been something in his eyes, something on the edge of confession.

I sighed, the silence of the house settling around me again. The morning air was cool as I pushed the window open wider. The breeze lifted the hem of my nightgown, brushing softly against my skin. I closed my eyes and let it carry away the tension for a moment.

When I opened them again, I saw Abel turn back at the last second, looking up at me from the path. He raised a hand and waved with a small smile.

That tiny gesture filled my chest with warmth. I waved back, my heart fluttering as he disappeared once more.

What did I miss?

The unfamiliar voice made me freeze. I turned sharply, eyes scanning the perimeter. Then, I saw him leaning on the wall right next to the window.

It was the man I’d helped back then. The one I’d found injured by the forest. The one I’d given fruit snacks and a fever patch to, because I hadn’t known what else to do.

It seems I missed an episode,he spoke again, you’re already infatuated with him.”
