He sighed, tapping his finger on the steering wheel. “I told you. You’re coming with me.”

“I can’t. I have school. I need to graduate,” I muttered.

He clicked his tongue and pulled over to the side, making me frown deeper. Everything was just going too fast. He ran his fingers through his hair, appearing to be frustrated.

Somehow, that action triggered something in me. “Why are you the one frustrated?” I asked, my voice coming out louder than I had expected. It seemed he didn’t expect it, either.

He turned to me with a small frown. Something had broken inside of me, and the words just kept coming out.

“Why are you here anyway? Why did you come to my school and claim you were my boyfriend when you even told me to forget your name!”

I didn’t even take a pause to breathe.

“You told me you’re going to tell me something, but you’ve kept me in the dark the entire day! Then, you come to my workplace just to witness how pathetic my life is. I really don’t understand you. You can’t just barge in and change the entire trajectory of my life in a single second. Where am I going to go now-”

My words were cut short when I felt something against my lips. My eyes widened for a fraction of a second, but when his lips started moving against mine, urgently and hungrily, I couldn’t help but close them and receive his kiss.

His lips were just as rough as I remembered, but there was a sweetness to them that hadn’t been there before. It must have been the syrup, or it must have been the fact that there was something inside my mind that said that this was what I wanted all along.

However, it still didn’t make any sense because we barely knew each other.

He moved away from my lips faster than I had liked, and a small whine escaped my lips as I tried to chase after his pink, rough ones.

He placed his hands on the sides of my face and kept me there. We were both breathless, and the rant that previously spilled out of me was trashed in an instant.

“Why can’t you defend yourself like this to your stepmother?”

My cheeks flushed red. “Because she owns me,” I muttered, despite not liking that answer. “She owns everything I have.”

He clicked his tongue and finally moved away, making me let out a soft breath.

“I told you not to worry about your home,” he muttered. “You’d be staying with me from now on. I’ll be taking you here to study or ask your school to let you finish it online.”

“Why?” I countered, unable to stop myself anymore. “Why are you doing this?”

“Because I need you,” he finally said, looking into my eyes.

My breath hitched. However, he quickly corrected himself.

“Not in the way that you think. I need to show you something first,” he muttered. Then, he started driving again, leaving me in the dark once more. We continued driving until we arrived at the far end part of Ylarc–one which I haven’t seen before. I didn’t even know a place like this existed.

He opened the door, and I unconsciously followed. We passed by a couple of houses, and he greeted a young couple named Noelle and Sol. They looked at me with a small smile, and they also had unrealistically good looks, like all the people I had seen from Ylarc.

He led me to the deepest forest until we arrived at a place filled with trees and nothing else. The air here seemed colder, stronger than that of the rest of the land.

He stood in front of me, and I had to look up because he was much taller than I was.

“You must be confused,” he started off. He looked down at me with the same dark gaze always seemed to unravel every part of my being.

He grabbed my hand, and I gasped because the sparks had become even more intense than before. “About why you’re feeling like this.”

He went closer until our noses were nearly touching each other, and I could smell his minty breath. “About how your heart beats fast when I’m around.”

Right on cue, my heart started beating faster than what the human heart is capable of. I was surprised I could still stand still with how hard and fast it was beating.

My breath caught. I had a feeling in the back of my mind. It was already there by the time Vicky told me that something didn’t feel… human in Fenra.

I always knew it was impossible that only humans inhabited the entire world. However, the presence of other beings was something I couldn’t believe in until I saw it myself.

No, he appeared bigger than a wolf. I took a step back and stumbled upon a stray branch, making me fall to the ground. I couldn’t move as his wolf form walked closer to where I was.

Despite the fact that he was in a different form, his eyes showed that he was still Abel, and I found myself reaching out my hand to pet his fur.

I did so carefully because this was still Abel, and despite everything that was happening, I was sure that he was going to pull away.

However, as my hand made contact with his soft fur, I was surprised when he actually purred and leaned into my touch.

“A werewolf,” I muttered.
