Hayley’s POV 

I hope we meet again? 

He had me acting all coy around him! 

Benjamin was supposed to be my fated mate. How could I ever act this way toward another man? 

What a shameless idiot! Did he forget every warning I gave him? 

“Fine.” I glared at him while forcing a smile that was anything but real. “I hope we … never cross paths again. How’s that?” 

Truman’s expression sank as disappointment written all over his face. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets and sighed. “So even Truman, known as one of the strongest Alphas, can’t always get what he wants!” 

“You’re underselling yourself. With the whole Grimmoon Pack’s enforcers under your command, what can’t you accomplish?” I quipped. 

“My men aren’t gift–givers. Whatever I want ends up on my nightstand the very next day.” 

Truman let out a low chuckle, then raised his eyes to me. “But they can’t bring me someone’s heart.” 

I caught on to his meaning instantly and turned my head away. Still, nerves got the better of me, and I swallowed hard. 

The moment I realized it, frustration welled up inside me. 

What was I doing, letting Truman fluster me like this? Why was my heartbeat going wild? 

Benjamin was my only love, the mate chosen for me by the Moon Goddess! 

Catching feelings for Truman was wrong. It should not happen. 

“You must have a screw loose. Go get yourself checked at the hospital right away!” 

Afraid he would see straight through me, I snapped and then stormed off. 

I quickened my steps and shouted, “I’ll go to the Waltons on my own, no need for you to give me a lift!” 

But I had barely gone a few steps when a hand suddenly gripped my wrist. 

I froze as another hand wrapped around my waist. 

In an instant, Truman had lifted me into his arms.
