Hayley’s POV:

I quickly opened my laptop and started a video call with Humbert from Winterbite Pack.

Humbert appeared on the screen looking uneasy, his lips parting like he wanted to speak, but then shutting again, unsure of what to say.

“Ms. Carson, it’s all just nonsense. Those netizens hate seeing others succeed. Try not to let it bother you..

“Byrd Jewelry counts on you now. You can’t let a bunch of lies throw you off track…”

I knew Humbert well. He wasn’t exactly smooth with his words, and when it came to comforting someone, he was hopeless. He usually said whatever popped into his head. His intentions were good, but the more he spoke, the more awkward he got.

Seeing him flustered like that actually made me smile. “Relax. I’m okay,” I told him calmly.

“You don’t actually think a bit of gossip like this could mess with my mood, do you?”

Still, Humbert didn’t look convinced. After a short silence, he said, “You just didn’t seem okay earlier.”

My smile faded as my thoughts grew serious. “I was just wondering who’d want to throw a wrench into things right now.”

“I’ve got a hunch,” he said, his expression growing darker.

“Tell me,” I said, focusing on him.

“Winterbite Pack. The Bennetts,” he answered, his tone dead serious.

“The Bennetts, huh?” I lifted a brow, slightly amused. “Right… I almost forgot. They’re about to go head–to- head with Byrd Jewelry.”

That’s when it clicked–Truman had mentioned that Rosalie was working with the Bennetts now.

Once the topic came up, Humbert couldn’t hold back anymore. “Back at that auction, when I saw you arguing with Ms. Bennett, I had a feeling they wouldn’t back off. That family’s full of snakes.”

“What exactly have they done?” I asked, wanting to know more.

Humbert’s voice sharpened. “Byrd Jewelry’s been struggling for years now, mostly because they’ve been sabotaging us behind the scenes. If it weren’t for their tricks, a hundred–year–old brand like ours wouldn’t be in this mess.

“For us Byrds, jewelry isn’t just about money–it’s about creating something beautiful and unique through brilliant design.”

He was getting more worked up with every word, practically shaking with anger. “But the Bennetts? They copy. They fake. They’ve got no shame!

“They even flooded the market with fake pieces that looked like ours. People started thinking Byrd Jewelry was selling knockoffs.

“The whole industry got hit, but we took the worst of it. Everyone laughed at us.”
