A Divorce He Regrets (Raina and Alexander) novel Chapter 359

Inside it were old files. Thick, yellowed papers were marked with a familiar name. Osborne.

I froze. What’s inside the files that they locked them away so securely?

I realized in that moment that I had seen them before, but only in bits and pieces. And yet here, they were again, staring at me in the face. This time I’m going to get to the bottom of it. I didn’t even think twice before I shoved every single file into my bag. Forget the damn proposal, this is bigger.

By the time I made it back to her room, Ava was still asleep, a pencil dangling from her hand. I wanted to lean in and place a kiss on her lips but I held myself back before quickly packing my things and making my downstairs.

Her uncle stopped me at the door, arms folded. What does he want this time around? “Stop right there,” he ordered, his voice cold and his expression hard. “I hope you didn’t steal anything.”

I gave him a look like he had just insulted me in public. “Do you want to search me and confirm?”

He bristled as his wife muttered something about letting me go, and with slumped shoulders, he walked out of the way and I walked out without another word. Inside my head, though, I wasn’t so calm.

I didn’t fucking take anything that didn’t belong to me or my family. Those files were mine by blood and name.

I got to my car, got in and drove home fast, barely hearing the engine. When I got in, I dumped the files on my desk and stared at them like they might come to life and bite me. I didn’t open them because I just couldn’t bring myself to.

The next day, I tried to act normal. I showed up at school and smiled at Ava like nothing was wrong, she looked at me, smiling back as she blushed. She asked why I left after she slept and I told her that I didn’t want to disturb her sleep. She had no idea what I did in her house.

The day was going so well, until grandma called just before lunch. Fuck.

“You better have that proposal,” she barked the second I answered. Like it’s that easy.

“I snuck in,” I muttered, my voice low so no one would overhear. “It was there and I think Alexander Sullivan already filed it in.”

There was dead silence and I thought she had hung up, but then I heard her voice again, sharp as glass. “You useless boy!” She snapped. “Don’t think your father would have failed this badly? Do you think he went through all that just for you to come back empty handed?”

“This is bullshit,” I muttered to myself. “It had to be.”

But the folder wasn’t just papers, there was a flash drive tucked inside.

I stared at it, my hand frozen halfway to my laptop. Do I play it?

If this was real, it would change everything about him, about us… about me.

My heart pounded as I picked the drive. Do I really want to know?
