A Divorce He Regrets (Raina and Alexander) novel Chapter 275

DOMINIC

It had been over twelve hours.

Twelve fucking hours since when the girls went missing.

Twelve hours since the worst thing that could have ever happened, happened.

Twelve hours of calling, searching, digging and even praying to a God I wasn’t even sure was still listening to people like me.

I ran my hand through my hair for the umpteenth time and I paced around in circles in the dirty airport security office. Every wall surrounding us felt like they were closing in on me, the bright light in the room was making my eyes ache and my head was banging. My throat was dry from all the shouting, questioning and screaming I had been doing. But with all my questions, no one was seeming or able to give me any tangible response.

Alex was sitting by the table, his head in his hand, the fingers of his other hand clenched so tight around his phone that his knuckles had turned white and his veins popped. His face was pale, drained off all blood and filled with nothing but worry.

His jaw was clenched and I could tell that the little strength he was using to hold himself together was about to snap.

We had both lost it already and we were barely hiding ourselves together and to the last strain of our sanity.

There was security footage, sure and they had been brought to us when we requested it. They had boarded the plane, we had seen them and the footage showed it.

Raina was smiling as she waved and Faith was laughing as they got comfortable in their seats.

But somehow, by the time the plane landed… they were nowhere to be found.

I leaned in even closer as the picture was zoomed into. A man was standing by the boarding gates, his hands were tucked deep into the pockets of his jacket and his head was not only lowered but also hooded. He wasn’t particularly doing anything but there was something that felt wrong about him and the way he was looking, it was like he was trying to act too casual and still. Like he was waiting for the forest opportunity to do something.

Alex and I exchanged a look and something akin to dread settled in the pit of my stomach as the air became charged with tension.

Without wasting another second, we called the airport’s security line.

At first, they didn’t want to answer us, giving us reasons and hiding behind protocols and regulations as they blatantly refused to release flight details or information about people that were present. Alex was angered by their answers and I could practically see the smoke that was coming out from his head as his face turned red.

I grabbed the phone from Alex, angered myself as I put the phone on the table and started barking into the speaker. “We will involve the police and you’ll have a full investigation crawling over this place. You’ll be tagged as an accomplice and your customers would see it all on the news which would lead to you losing your business. Think about it, the ball is in your court.”
